Anyway! what also makes this movie work is the phenomenal screenplay, sure it's based on a book but very loosely as it did it's own thing and replaced the book character with it's own cinematic creation being John Mcclane and became an iconic film character.

Who knew that they wanted Stallone, Arnold, Patrick Swayze, Tom Selleck, Harrison Ford and more to be John Mcclane, but let's be glad it was Bruce because he had 2 box office flops and was well known on Moonlighting. It's a good choice because some people thought he was a comedy actor, but he performed well being a serious action guy actor here as he plays a down to earth relatable cop character who's an every day joe who got into the wrong place at the wrong time and becomes a hero in the movie.

Plus engaging characters especially Alan Rickman who did phenomenal as Grueber. Plus the score is outstanding as well.
Why did these actors pass on it?

Five stars.

Die Hard 2 is solid but Die Hard 3 is the best sequel in the franchise and Die Hard 3 is a classic sequel. Part 4 is a solid ending to the franchise in it's uncut version and part 5 sucked.

Die Hard is one of my favorite movies.
Same here. Literally. Age and everything.

After he says that, McClane definitely cares about glass. Oh, the irony.

Over time, you really appreciate the screenplay. What is John called? A "cowboy." In a western, the cowboy comes to town on a horse at the beginning of the movie. How does this begin? John "comes to town on a horse" (arrives on a plane.) Just one of many things you notice.

I read the book last year. It's good, but different. A lot of the action beats are straight from the book. On the other hand, the screenwriter made all the right commercial decisions by making the protagonist younger, changing the female to a wife, adding in the topical Japanese business competition. It's an exceptional adaptation.

Pretty thrilled about this, especially it not being a one-time-only Fathom thing.

You're lucky to have one near you, jealous haha. Only my local Cinemark's are showing it, and not in their XD theater just on their Standard screen's. Def going to watch this on Friday.

This is apparently going to be a pretty wide release (though not sure how long it will run). Weird that it's only just now being announced.

Disney's marketing department seems to have been really struggling the past couple of years. How do you mount a wide theatrical re-release of one of the all-time classic action movies, and then just not tell anyone about it until barely a week before it comes out?

This HAD to have been a last-minute thing based on how much money they've lost this year. Plus, what else is opening next weekend?

Maybe so. There seem to have been quite a few re-releases of older films from various studios this year, though. Perhaps it was an attempt to fill in the gaps left by some of the new ones that were delayed to due to the strikes?

At any rate, can't make up for lost revenue if you don't tell anyone what you're selling.

I think ever since somebody pointed out both Die Hard and the sequel are Christmas set movies, it turned a lot of people's favourite Christmas movie on their heads lol.

I personally find watching these movies a little bittersweet now given Bruce Willis has deteriorated severely due to his medical condition, and the man who gave us such amazing performances over a decorated career probably is unable to recall the many years of hard work to nail the characters he played.

He played a crap ton of B movie characters near the end of his acting gigs, but now knowing it was all to cash in for his family future and security, nobody can truly begrudge the man making sure they're looked after and can also use that money to support him during this difficult time.

I don't know personally if i will go watch this at the cinema. My local will be showing it but their projectors are by and large rubbish. So i may opt to watch on my 4K TV via Disney+ as it has been many, many years since i watched the original.

Nothing to hate. Love Actually is the best of the 3

Although, I still haven’t seen Die Hard all the way through. I’ll definitely make the trip to the theater for this

Love Actually usually gets a lot of hate around here. It's a fun guilty pleasure.

I'm surprised this is getting a Dolby Cinema release. We're getting spoiled with this, The Abyss, Beetlejuice, Titanic, etc. all getting Dolby reissues lately!
