Looks like the price went up for Canadian release.

Also, hate to seem like a jerk, but oh well...

Why do companies waste plastic and create more plastic pollution re-releasing the same stuff over and over again with no improvements and such low bitrates instead of spending the money to have something everyone will enjoy and rant and rave about how good it is?

Like Jackie Chan collection from Shout Factory. Why? Why would I want to buy 2 $100 box sets when it's just a collection of the same stuff with no real video, audio, nor translation improvements... It's 2023 people! Wake up!

Nobody wants to keep spending large amounts of money on super slacker releases...

Why would I want to spend $20-$40 on Fong Sai Yuk 1&2 a Blu-ray with 2 movies on it, indicating the bitrates are severely low? Are these companies even film fans? I really gotta ask, because I find it ridiculous that they waste time, money, and resources to make these only upsetting fans of the films by not doing diligence.

Apple won't even license the catalog of Hong Kong films in 4k DV they have on their AppleTV+ service in Asia to other countries...

Are these companies just going to keep doing this? History seems to be repeating itself in my mind...

End Rant..

I was going to forgive the dubtitles, but reading that these are cut too is a deal breaker

Do we know that part 2 is cut? This is the first worldwide Blu release of part 2, isn't it?

Yah, same. I'm happy with my DVD copies of these films tbh, I don't really want to upgrade for the same cut and dubtitles, just a little nicer video quality. It's a shame. Would love for Jet Li's 90s films to get proper releases, but it seems like it won't be happening any time soon.

I don't have the Fong Sai-yuk movies on any format. but while I'd like to finally watch them, they aren't a priority like the other set (Fist of Legend & Tai Chi Master)

so I'll get the other set for now, and hopefully a better version for both get released by someone else soon

At this point in the format and how HK films are finally given the respect they deserve on the format in ways never thought possible? I can't support subpar releases.

As always, the good discs get my money. Just cuz you tried doesn't mean you deserve the money for it.

Yes; given the run times and the fact they are using dubtitles, it would have to be the cut version. Otherwise, you would have scenes where these are no subtitles.

Corey Yuen is my favorite action director and Fong Sai Yuk's one of his best... This doesn't mean we have to settle for subpar releases. We deserve better. They promised newly translated subtitles on this release and failed to deliver even that.

Looks like I gotta stick with my HK LDs. Uncut, no dubtitles.

Maybe some fan restoration could put together the LD mono and subs with the HD video. I can dream.

Finished watching both films. The PQ was better for part 2 but the subtitles were pretty bad. They are out of sync quite often and aren't translated well.
[Show spoiler]In the scene where Jet Li puts on a blindfold he says something like "Heaven will guide me" whereas when I've seen this before the translation is "I don't want to have to look at my brothers while fighting you" which is much more accurate in context.
I only had part 2 on DVD so the PQ is quite an upgrade but that's the best I can say for this release. PQ for the first film leaves a lot to be desired. These films are a good showcase for Jet Li and feature well done comedy. It's unfortunate this set feels like it was released as a cash grab.

Because they are DUBTITLES - they the English dub subtitled, so they are timed for the English dub only and don't really offer a translation of the original language track.

I just found out about this release. These are the 2 films I want on Blu-ray the most for so long. 2 of my all time favourites and in my opinion Jet Li’s best.
And I’m so disappointed to see these are the cut versions. I really hope someone in the UK can release the uncut versions. I had the Dragon Dynasty version of 1 and hated it and sold it. I also have the UK Blu-ray of 1 which is almost the same as the DD version apart from a 1s BBFC cut and surprisingly better subtitles than the DD release.
About 25 years ago I imported the HK Universe DVD’s which are uncut but have bad sound, terrible subtitles, and are non-anamorphic. I also imported the Japanese Klockwork DVD’s which are anamorphic but have no English subs. Always planned to use these as masters to create my own versions by adding the subtitles from the HK versions (and correcting them) but never had the time.
Come on Eureka and 88 Films, PLEASE release these 2 movies.

I’m willing to tolerate a lot if the release has the original audio track, good subtitles, and good video quality. Hell, I’ll even pay for it. But those are deal-breaking necessities for me. I get that HK films have been ill-treated over the years, but if fans can assemble these in their basements, one would think studios could do it too.
