On the one hand, the snarky comment about my telling him he should be seeing the same thing and on the other talking about "velvety vivacity" in grain. Yeah, would be curious to know what you think of Killer's Kiss.

Jesus, dimmer, dimmer, dimmer... Will try it again when I get home. I suppose next you're gonna tell me Dolby Vision Dark is better than Dolby Vision Bright.
Maybe buy a better TV instead of boosting contrast then complaining it looks "hot."

You can have velvety grain and vivid contrast in the same piece, that was actually a concession that grain isn’t gonna be as strong on an actual print.

BUT…uh…DV Dark is indeed the intended mode, DV Bright is boosted for daytime viewing. That said, is it a Sony OLED you have? I think the consensus is that DV is pretty much broken on modern Sony sets as it is much too dark.

He’s not wrong though. I understand wanting to make tweaks to make something more of whatever you want it to be, but if it comes at the detriment of the image then it’s not ideal, you know? You had/have so many issues with your setup that it makes anything you say very hard to take at face value.

Sorry to get off topic, but I just wanted to say I love the works of Wim Wenders, particularly "Der Himmel über Berlin."

Here's hoping Criterion follows up "Wings" with "Paris,Texas." Love most of his work, but those are the top two for me.

I have a Sony A90J, Dolby Vision Dark is fine with daylight scenes or any scene where there is abundant light. But for night scenes or low light scenes it looks too dark, even when watching in a darkened room.

In scenes with more light, the grain in Killer's Kiss and The Killing with Dolby Vision Dark and adv. contrast enhancer: off still looks like it's glowing/electric. If it's supposed to, okay. I can't find what kind of film was used. But it seems my description is correct even with the recommended settings. I wouldn't have brought it up if it was something that only shows by elevating two settings. What then of all the other movies that haven't had that quality in my viewings so far? You're clinging to it because you're like this every post.

I don't have that issue. At all.

And Geoff, I have read a few prominent calibrators state that DV Dark is correct for the Sony OLEDS at least from models 2021 to present (Mine is ISF calibrated that way as well). Other then the fact that they can't account for Sonys sets coming out of black too fast and not being able to calibrate below a certain point to correct it but that applies to both HDR and DV. We know so many folks say so many things, and most grounded in personal preference, that we can't take everything posted as gospel.

Yes, I have a Sony, an A80K. I used Dolby Vision Bright because rtings.com said it was the most accurate. Will switch to Dark, but turn adv. contrast enhancer back on (Low again) if dark scenes become too dark like Nocheduro said. Can't tell right now because too much sunlight is coming through the edges of my blackout curtains.

Except that it doesn't, as confirmed by myself and many others in this thread. Stop clinging to your "system" and telling everyone it's wrong when it clearly isn't. Enough people and reviews have chimed in to prove you wrong. Time to let it rest and upgrade your equipment so you don't have these fake issues.

Who are you talking about? I see Kyle, and he responded to The Trial, which I described differently. I didn't say that one had the electric grain, I said it had brightly lit skin. Who are you talking about? Gosh, so desperate to pick another fight, it remembers things that didn't happen.

I also see PNguyen, who said HDR doesn't make black and white movies look brighter. Except it does, generally. Brighter and darker. That's one of the purposes of HDR. Most studios and labels do use the wider range.

I thought most calibrators still recommend turning off DV completely on Sony sets?

D-Nice is the only one I remember who's against using it in any form and is a real stickler for it.

But he also says it not better or worse then LG sets as well in regards to how it comes out after calibration.

Jeff is another one who feels it fine on both brands and not all that different post calibration as well.

I do love "Until the End of the World", but I wish the three part version had been restored rather than the new two part one. No difference in footage (excluding title/credit sequences) but I feel it works better as three parts rather than two.

I have been holding off on the new Paris, Texas Blu’s in hopes that someone will put it on a 4K disc!

My mistake, I misread what you wrote. Both are only blu-rays. Apologies.
