Don't care for the time frame or the setting. I'm afraid it'll be WB teen angst stuff with a Trek veneer. I like my Trek to be boldly going somewhere, not hanging around an academy. But I'll read what others say about it and maybe it'll change my mind.

John! You’ve given me shit for waiting to hear from others before giving stuff a chance so I’m here to razz you!

Casting nonsense aside, I agree that this doesn’t sound that interesting. I’m quite tired of teen angst and coming of age stuff being shoved into lots of things now. If I want to watch Dawsons Creek, I’ll watch Dawsons Creek. I don’t need it set in space to try and fool me into thinking that it’s sci-fi when it barely is.

I get that Paramount is trying desperately to reign in more Trek viewers and reaching out to 14 year olds might work. I doubt it though.

I'm not saying in advance that it's going to be a hot pile of poop either though.

I of course would give it a shot but I have serious doubts it would win me over. It's way down on my list of Trek ideas I'd like to see turned into shows.

This sounds like a pretty cool idea, and a unique take. I always thought the academy scenes in the JJ films were fun. As long as the writing is good, I'm in for it.

If they do this right, it could be brilliant. If they do it wrong, it could be a train wreck.

Everything for now is just guesswork.

The premise could go either way. The setting doesn't particularly excite me. Beyond that, there's not much to go on. My initial reaction was to dislike the idea, but I'll give it a fair go when it airs.

I just hope that Matalas gets to do something as well.

I am interested in seeing the day to day of the Academy. That has really not been shown on screen. Would like to see some conflict between them, like a B'Elanna Torres that just cannot fit in, or work within the structures that are created.

The idea of a Starfleet Academy movie or show has been kicking around for a long time. It's always been a concept I haven't been particularly interested in. I'll definitely give it a shot, but I'd be lying if I said the announcement isn't a little disappointing.

Holly Hunter is going to play one of the lead roles. Filming starts this Summer.

Oscar winner Holly Hunter has been tapped to star in Paramount+’s upcoming series Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. Hunter will play the captain and chancellor of Starfleet Academy in the series which will begin production later this Summer.

There is also a first description of the Show:

Star Trek: Starfleet Academy introduces viewers to a young group of cadets who come together to pursue a common dream of hope and optimism. Under the watchful and demanding eyes of their instructors, they discover what it takes to become Starfleet officers as they navigate blossoming friendships, explosive rivalries, first loves and a new enemy that threatens both the Academy and the Federation itself.

Can't wait to see this multi-level "largest set in Star Trek history" that's been constructed for this show.

Holly Hunter is great casting. Good start.

After a tepid reaction to the first season, Holly Hunter shaves her head and grows a beard for season 2 and the show becomes much more popular.
