I remember when new release SteelBooks were $19.99. The first AntMan was $27.99, and now we're at $38.99? Ouch.

It’s painful, but I preordered to keep my MCU collection up to date.

Yeah at that price, I think I am fine with not owning every MCU Steelbook

Despite my misgivings of the film itself, this steelbook is definitely one of the best looking ones which is enough for a purchase for me. However these Best Buy prices for steelbooks are getting out of control.

I'll be honest,I got it at a cheaper price because I have Totaltech.I pre-ordered it along with two other films and they gave a bundle discount. For the Ant-Man and the Wasp Quantumania 4K Steelbook they gave me a $5.85 discount and charged me $33.14.For the other two films I ordered which were $29.99 each, they took $4.50 off each(both were recent/upcoming 4k/Blu Ray Shout releases) charging me $25.49 for each.

Same here. I don't know what the future holds, but I'm thinking of stopping after Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3.

So is it safe to assume with the announcement of the HMV exclusive Steelbook (which appears to mirror for the UK the Best Buy Steelbook) that the Zavvi Exclusive Collector’s Edition Steelbook line that they had with DOCTOR STRANGE AND THE MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS, THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER and WAKANDA FOREVER has come to a quick end?

What other films did you order? I have Totaltech and I don’t see any mention of a bundle discount anywhere.

I pre-ordered the Ant-Man 3 steelbook with a pre-order of the upcoming Motel Hell 4K from Shout Factory and I also ordered the new The Exorcist III 4K from Shout Factory that came out on 3/28.

When I pre-ordered Ant-Man 3,it had the normal $38.99 price but when I added Motel Hell, the reduced prices came up for both and a little red box with white writing that said the savings.I then added The Exorcist III and the reduced price for that and savings amount came up for that too.

This really happened by chance since I had pre-ordered Motel Hell and The Exorcist III with it a few hours before but then canceled the order about an hour after I made it because I decided I wanted to change gift cards i was using and order all three on one card that had a larger amount of money on it when the Ant Man steelbook went live and save that original gift card for something else.Basically get everything on one gift card and save the now empty other gift card for something else rather then have two orders split over the two cards.

Here's the summary from the confirmation email I received after I ordered the three films.

The Exorcist III [4K Ultra HD Blu-ray/Blu-ray] [1990]
Total Tech Price Savings
$25.49
Save $4.50
Reg $29.99

Pre-ordered Item
Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania [SteelBook] [Includes Digital Copy] [4K Ultra HD Blu-ray/Blu-ray] [2023]

Total Tech Price Savings
$33.14
Save $5.85
Reg $38.99

Pre-ordered Item
Motel Hell [4K Ultra HD Blu-ray/Blu-ray] [1980]
Total Tech Price Savings
$25.49
Save $4.50
Reg $29.99

The price increases are making me consider no longer completing the MCU. I could save a bunch of money by selling all the SteelBooks I currently have and just getting the regular editions.

Collecting SteelBooks has been fun but it's hard to keep up with the prices nowadays.

Well, if you have all of them before this you at least have a complete Phase 1-4 collection. Since this is the first of Phase 5, it is actually the perfect time to bail.

I'm fine with owning the 4K steels from Iron Man to Endgame with the coda Far From Home and slipping in Black Widow before Infinity War.

Of course OCD "forced" me to buy No Way Home and complete the trilogy and was happy for the reprint to complete that trilogy.

Cheated on The Incredible Hulk, just bought the 4K Standard on BF and slipped in the 4K disc into the old standard steelbook.

That to me is a complete collection.

Makes sense. I've been planning on hopping off the Steelbook ride for a while now. I can see myself getting ones for the new Avengers movies though down the line.

Studios and retailers will kill off physical media by blaming customers once they refuse to support at higher prices. People want to buy and support physical media. Studios want to push the narrative it's dead to justify continually hiking prices for higher margins. People will eventually give up the battle and say I'm not paying $40, $50, $60 for a single movie. Especially when most people would rather budget that money towards a streaming service. I'm already there mentally, I just need to follow through on ending the collection. I know I'm not the only one.

I'm getting there, too. Especially now- since my local Best Buy no longer brings in any steelbook releases. They get a handful of the standard issue 4k and blu-ray, but it's at least a 50 minute drive to the closest store with a steelbook in stock. If my copy comes in damaged- I just return it and write it off until later (reissue or just forget about it altogether). Most folks still haven't really returned to the theater after the pandemic, but there aren't very many movies to bring us back, either. I did see Top Gun: Maverick in Dolby and my college-age son and I will still catch most of the Marvel films, but my wife has only seen Top Gun: Maverick since she saw The Rise of Skywalker in theaters. I'll wait it out and buy a 4k digital copy from Apple or Vudu for $10- or just catch it on one of the streaming services.

All that said, I will probably get this and Guardians 3 before I hang it up.

Agreed. Especially with the quality of the releases AND steels for them going down. This one was an easy pass for me. The art doesn't do it for me, the movie was meh, and apparently this is the year for actor to try and out scummy each other.

I joined this sight about 10 years ago. A few years after, started looking into steelbooks and reading posts here. Always had a lot of good info. There used to be a lot of discussions/posts and often the last post would be very recent. I noticed there has been a drop in activity on steelbooks, less posts/discussions maybe the last year or even longer. I noticed the D&D steelbook is on preorder and usually by the time I see that there is already a post and pages of discussions. So far nothing for D&D steelbook. Even the last post for this one was from 4/11 and Shazam was 4/4.

Anyway, BB gave me a $5 coupon...not sure why as i have zero points with them. Trying to figure out if to use it on Ant-Man or Shazam. But I know not using on D&D at the $39.99 price-point! Yeah I know, Ant-Man is only a $1 less & Shazam $3.
