I think Zelda can work as either live action or animation, but Metroid needs to be live-action, if it was animated then it would be watered down too much unless you go for a Final Fantasy Movie type deal. Which i don't see making that much money

Last I heard Illumination is working on a Legend of Zelda animated movie. I don't know wich one will come out first, that or the Super Mario 2 movie. Still no word on a Metroid movie.

I mean, I would presume that if either Zelda or Metroid were based fairly closely off of the games, it would be rather possible for them to remain animated. I think what's more important is that each franchise is built around its own unique tone that is fitting for said franchise. With what people like and expect for Metroid for example, making it feel like a light and humorous Illumination/Pixar-type movie won't work.

Zelda, Metroid, and Star Fox also could be done in a number of ways, including a more serious, big-budget live-action movie or TV form. Franchises like Donkey Kong or Kirby are a bit less adaptable in my opinion.

I'd love to see a live-action Zelda movie, done in the epic style of The Lord of the Rings. They could adapt Ocarina of Time as the overall storyline, with the Seven Sages (including Princess Zelda herself) against Ganon, and Link being the Hero of Time recruited to their cause.

Chris Pratt spoke to Entertainment Tonight about the sequel:

"We're in the midst of this writers' strike, and so everything has been paused and [put] on hold for the right reasons. I really do support the WGA and our writers. When the negotiations have been completed, and the writers feel comfortable moving forward, then it'll be time to start talking about what's next for that.

"We're so grateful for the support, though. It’s really shocking to me how successful that movie's been. I mean, I expected that people would love it the way I was excited about it, but it's truly multigenerational around the world. People love it. They love Mario... It's a really fun, funny, cute, heartwarming movie and, God, I can't believe I'm part of it”.

Interesting details to note:

-Nintendo of Japan are far more involved in production this time around, they wrote the Japanese language script of the first movie
-Film is in the storyboarding/set building phase and animation production begins soon, likely after Despicable Me 4 wraps. Illumination has no 2025 feature set and the usual 4th of July weekend slot was taken by the next Jurassic installment so wouldn't be surprised if Illumination takes as much time to make sure this is as good as possible
-the wording of the announcement also makes it seem like it may not be Mario 2, it could also be a spinoff like what was rumored for Luigi's Mansion and Donkey Kong

It better be Mario 2, I am not big fan of Donkey Kong....and even less so for Seth Rogan.

For me it was great MARIO entertainment in that it delivered what I as a fan would want out of a film about Mario. You'd think that's not such a hard feat, but just look at what we've gotten in the past decade. Hollywood treats the prospect of just sticking to the source material like it's a Rubix Cube.
