I got the UK Steelbook edition with all the tat and I’m so goad I did!
Firstly, the film HAS Dolby Vision, on the back on the cover it says HDR10 but when you play the Disc it says Dolby Vision on the playback info Secondly, I have a Panasonic 820 UHD Player so the Kino Disc was constantly flipping between Dolby Vision and HDR to give that strobe effect, well on this Universal Dolby Vision Disc it doesn’t do that and it looks absolutely gorgeous Lastly, the sound is the standard 5.1 DTS/HD and it absolutely rocks, I’m sure it’s the same as the one that was on the previous Bluray edition released here in Europe. The LFE channel sounds pretty aggressive and not lite like the Kino one. I hope this helps to those on the fence about picking this Disc up |

Interesting to hear about the 5.1 being different from the Kino. Looking back through threads it seems you had the German BD, which I have also and do agree sounds nice in the brief comparisons I made against the US BD. However, I had noticed the left and right surround channels on the German BD 5.1 are swapped (yes, yet another channel swap problem in this title's history for some reason). If you check motorcycle sequences, that's an area where you'll notice it. I noticed it in different parts of the film, so it seemed like a complete channel swap, as opposed to a scene specific issue - but admittedly, that was only my first time seeing the film so I'm not well versed in it. So that would be worth verifying on this new release since from what you're saying it seems like it has the same 5.1 mix as the German BD 5.1 (not sure if that 5.1 was used elsewhere - possibly the French BD too?). |

It's good news the left and right are correct, but to be clear, the issue I found on the German 1080 BD was different from the initial Kino 4K problem. On the Kino 4K (before they corrected) it was left and right channel swapped. On the German BD though it was left surround and right surround swapped. For a lot of the film that's not noticeable, but if you go to scenes where the motorcycle comes at the camera for example you hear it flip in the wrong direction as the movement goes from front to back.
Good example for checking surround movement would be the scene around 56:55 (motorcycle under the freeway overpass). |
