I actually think almost all of Hillcoat's films are superb. But The Proposition and The Road are obvious examples that he's suited for this adaptation.

I will wonder what a Todd Field version of this film would be.

The Proposition especially you could argue takes quite a lot from the novel already.

I disagree. The Counselor was a bravura performance. I realize I'm in the large minority, but that was a great flick. As was the screenplay, in lieu of a novel.

I'd guess its one of those films like Lynch's Dune which tended to not please either side, too dark and nihilist for those expectign a slick Scott thriller but also too slick scott thriller for those expecting McCarthyian nihilism.

The mix of the two though does I think make for something quite unique.

I'm quite jazzed for this. Hillocat is a director I admire and really wish got more films made (that Witchfinder General remake would be amazing). Him and Westerns go hand in hand so I have faith that this will please, at the very least me.
I can see the trying to capture the lyrical texture of both the book and McCarthy will be a challenge for John Logan, who's scripts are more straighfaced. But he's a worker and I'm sure he'll do what he can to deliver.
I'm also wondering who the DP is. Benoit Delhomme would work wonders with this. If not then Nicolas Karakatsanis.
