Clive Owen Joins Daisy Ridley in London-Set Action Thriller ‘Cleaner’

Clive Owen has joined “Star Wars” star Daisy Ridley in the London-set action-thriller “Cleaner.”

Directed by “Casino Royale” helmer Martin Campbell, the project follows a group of activists who ambush an energy company’s annual meeting at the Shard — one of London’s most recognizable skyscrapers — and takes 300 people hostage.

However, the cause is hijacked by an extremist within the group who’s ready to kill in order to send a message. It takes the efforts of Joey Locke, a former soldier who’s now a window cleaner (played by Ridley), to save the hostages while ensuring the corporation is held to account.

There was a movie that was going to be made in the early 2000s with the exact same plot. It was supposed to star Jackie Chan and take place at the World Trade Center in New York. Obviously, it was never made.

Jackie Chan in a Die Hard type movie would have been crazy.

There was a recent interview where Daisy Ridley mentioned this was the most intense action she’s done and felt more beaten up after playing this role compared to others.

How strange. I didn’t expect this to be a big release, but definitely not something that would be put on Amazon prime as a rental weeks before its theatrical release. I wonder if this was a mistake? Only appears to be on Amazon Prime at the moment. I’ll check it out there since I don’t think it’s going to play in Canadian theatres anyway. Only $9.99 rental on the Canadian side.

It’s $20 here in the states. Wonder if it is indeed a mistake as i did not find anything about a non-theatrical release date.

I saw it when it was randomly put up as a rental on Prime for a few days.

It was okay at best. Not something I would’ve watched if one of my favorite actresses wasn’t in it. For a 97 minute action flick it sure does take its sweet ass time to get to it. Daisy Ridley’s character is literally on the side of the building for like 3/4 of the film, but the action in the 3rd act is pretty awesome. Taz Skylar is such a natural at playing a baddie.

As a Daisy Ridley fan this was definitely a step down from the great films/performances she had in 2024. Seek those out.
