While that is listed in the features, the soundtrack is still listed as DTS-MA 2.0 mono. Blu-ray players and A/V receivers don't have the software to decode Perspecta. Which means either there is an error in the feature list, there is an error in the soundtrack specs (would need to be DTS2.0 stereo surround or DTS3.0+, not DTS2.0 mono), or it is that restored soundtrack but without the panning effects. I would think given the nature of that type of effect you'd want two english soundtracks, one that is pure mono and one with the panning effects. its really hard to see, but on the back of the cover is that English DTS-MA 2.0 next to the English 2.0 mono listing? That would work if so. But this site's specs for the release details don't list that. Last edited by Ruined; 09-06-2023 at 04:58 PM. |

It also says, in capital letters, “Plus The Original Multi-Directional Audio Track Unheard Since Its Original Theatrical Run In 1956 (4K Only).” It’s pretty clear that it’s included, hence why Shanghai Express mentioned it in his post in the first place.

Will the Blu Ray included be the old one or a new remaster?

The back cover says that both discs will include the restoration featurette, so...

This video about the amazing Victorian engineering behind the roof of the Royal Albert Hall popped up in my Facebook feed, and I thought other fans of the film might be interested in it too:

The Perspecta soundtrack is encoded as DTS-HD MA 5.1 (per my UB820), obviously with the superfluous channels silent. It's the default audio option in the menu.
RAH is the star of the new bonus feature, talking about all the work needed to "save" the movie visually as well as restoring the Perspecta soundtrack. |

The BD is the same old master, without the restoration OR its featurette. Indeed, while the 4K restores the original Paramount "The End" title, the BD still plasters it with a form of the classic 1963 Universal globe -- an image Hitchcock avoided in nearly all his later films at Universal (either using a hand-drawn still globe, shunning the globe entirely, or in Family Plot using a crystal ball in place of the globe).

Watching the UHD now.
The image is SPECTACULAR. I A/B'd the first thirty seconds or so of the first few chapters on the BD and then the UHD, and I'm watching the UHD all the way through now. The difference between the BD and the UHD is amazing. This is my favorite Hitchcock film, and I'm thrilled it finally got the restoration it deserved. ![]() |

As someone without 4k, would the digital code send me to a Vudu version of the restoration or am I out of luck? I've bought this movie so many times, each version inching forward in quality. This sounds like the version I've been dreaming of.
