I beleive the digital bits recently posted that Warner will be moving to lossless on all titles, but I'm sure the specs for MC were nailed down months ago.

How is the movie anyway? The lossy audio and apparent 20GB size have made it a definite no purchase for me at this point, but I was thinking of renting it.

Michael Clayton is one confusing movie. I had no clue what the hell was going on most of the movie...

Anyways, have you seen American Gangster yet? I plan on getting the 3-disc edition next Tuesday.

Took a quick look at the PQ of the movies just now (haven't watched them yet though).

Both movies video bitrate frequents between 14 and 20 Mbps (like most other Warner movies). Michael Clayton is a bit soft for my liking but with good dark scenes. In the valley of Elah, I thought, had a sharper image and it seemed like the best enconding (of the two) to me.

Menus and trailers on both discs are in 1080i

Yep, they intentionally put grain in it in post, plus it was shot on Super 35.

Grain-fest CONFIRMED.

MC is one of those movies that morans will end up saying "what's going on?" about 1 hour into the movie..

I have learned years ago to watch the movie all the way through before I even begin asking a question...that's why it's 2 hours and not 1 hour...

movies always explain themselves when you watch the entire thing...

I'm watching MC now and it has a very "Slick" look to it. I like it. The movie itself is a bit confusing. BUT I love those kind of movies. I like ones that make you think.

Since July (When I got my PS3) I have come to like the black bars. for some reason it makes movies look higher budget or some thing like that. I can't take a serious movie in the 1:85:1 ratio. It doesnt seem right to me. Superbad on the other hand is just fine like it is.

I know you were being sarcastic. It's just that I saw a couple of stupid posts today. Like

oh ahaha...I like apocalypto because it looks like a vivid painting on my HD set...

Superbad is fine because the PQ is definitely Blu and it takes up the whole screen...

some movies don't require WS....

take TMNT for instance....no reason for that movie to have black bars what-so-ever...

TMNT is the only movie that I was put the black bars on blast for.....I thought it was pointless...

other than that I look at FS movies on Blu as a treat for the sheer fact that it's great for showing off the PQ....

but for cinema...I'll take the movie any way the director intended it....except for animated movies because it truly is pointless IMO....

I also think that oscar style dramas look weird in 1:85:1.

Superbad doesnt need to be filmed at 2:35/4:1. Comedys just don't need that. same with animation. Unless its picsar.

My copy of Michael Clayton hovers around 20mbps, but actually ends up hitting 48 in some places... I also noticed the lack of compression artifacts which I've come to expect from WB and the grain looked natural, which is something I don't expect from WB.

yeah I have always wondered why some directors chose certain aspect ratios for certain movies...like Spielberg is all over the place with his, WOTW was 1:85 yet Munich was 2:35 and they came out the same year, same thing with Minority Report (would die to have that on Blu) and Catch Me if you Can.

I'm hoping that more directors decide to film their movies in the 1.85:1 aspect ration now with the advent of widescreen HDTVs and Blu-ray.
