and who can forget this film's opening sequence
I haven't picked up the BD of Dreamscape yet, hoping that gets a 4k from Shout. Another one I did see theatrically. Altho I remember a nude scene that kinda got left out of home video versions or maybe it's back in. I don't know. But, Kate Capshaw looked great in that + This one has some links to Nightmare on Elm Street.

How about pre-Raiders movies that may have been influences or at least share some action/adventure elements?

Valley of the Kings (1954)
Daring archaeologist teams with daughter of his archaeologist mentor to search for religious artifacts.

Gunga Din (1939)
Soldier seeking fortune & glory encounters Thuggee cult in a temple of doom. His pals attempt a rescue.
I eagerly await a Blu-Ray of this one!

I was thinking of all the movies before Indy but wondered how that would fit in, or if they just needed their own thread.

Obviously Secret of the Incas come to mind. Also there were King Solomon's Mines films from the 30s and 50s I believe...

A few more with the 'adventure(s) in a foreign land' theme that have some elements that could have inspired the Indy films:

Not so much the story but Indy's signature look.

Western with Gary Cooper and Richard Widmark in Mexico from the coast to the mountains.

Bogey and friends venturing for gold. Has the iconic line about 'stinking badges'.

and the Hollywood remake

Pretty any Victorian era 'British in India' films.

Some more Rudyard Kipling adaptations:
Soldier's Three (1951, no Blu-ray) and

I've been listening to podcast chronicling all of the Indiana Jones-style movies called "Get Me Another... Indiana Jones." Pretty interesting so far.

Perhaps more of a Romancing the Stone cash-in than an Indiana Jones cash-in, but I think there was at least a bit of Indy there.

I'd toss in "Jungle Cruise" with Dwayne Johnson and Emily Blunt.

I recall this being one of our first VHS rentals. Not sure if it ever migrated to the dvd format and so on.

Getting near the end of page 2 and nobody's mentioned Treasure of the Four Crowns? If anything else, it's the one 3D film that spends more time hurling things at the audience than any other.
