Default PS3 Display Question HDMI to DVI

I have a new PS3 that i am connecting to my Samsung 30" Widescreen HDTV Tube. The television has a DVI input but not a HDMI, so i got a monster cable DVI to HDMI Convertor and connected it with a HDMI cable. I cannot get a picture on the television. I know the HDMI output on the PS3 works because I hooked it up to a LG 32" LCD. Now the question I have is that I have read on the forums is that the TV or Display needs to be HDCP complaint. My television manual states

"By inputting a high bandwidth Digital Content Protection (HDCP) picture source to the Digital Input Jack on the TV, high definition pictures can be displayed on the screen in there digital forms."

Does the TV need this HDCP or is the PS3 sending a signal that is HDCP and the Television just needs to decode that? I am confused because by the manual statement above, my television supports it, right?
