Complete film > incomplete film, which would put the 88 release ahead — unless VS does the same painstaking work that 88 and their collaborators did to restore the missing bits.

I'd imagine Vinegar Syndrome will be doing their own in-house restoration since the original HK master is a mess. I'll be curious to see how their work differs from 88's.

With 88 in the US market, I'm surprised that have gotten beaten to the punch on a few of these HK titles in the US. With the huge variety of HK titles out there, just interesting how many times it's already happened.

I like Tony Stella’s art, but I prefer 88s this time round (although the VS release in terms of art will make a good companion piece to their release of Righting Wrongs)

my luck star set cover art is bad most of eureka art work for their martial art releases are bad and some are really good but my lucky star set to me Is one of the worst but I cant complain about the cover art of 88films Hong Kong films releases cause I think they get the right people to do the right art work for the right film.

Nah, the Lucky Stars set cover art is excellent.

This was a first time watch for me and I thought it was a highly entertaining movie with great action. Really like the artwork for this one.

It is. Different restorations were carried out by both 88 Films and Vinegar Syndrome.

Some early comparisons. The Vinegar Syndrome has more print damage which is restored on the 88 Films release. 88 Films grading more closely resembles previous home video releases.

Darren has done some excellent covers, including Encounters of the Spooky Kind and the Lucky Stars set.

Also, I would argue his SHE SHOOTS STRAIGHT cover is straight up (no pun intended) one of the best physical media covers of the year. I wouldn't call him consistently great per se, but I do feel he is capable of more than people give him credit for.

Notes:

• It doesn't seem to affect material for international versions (possibly only Hong Kong).
• The Laser-Video LaserDisc appears to have cut out the damaged frame.
• It would seem the Mei Ah Entertainment DVD and restored Gala Film Distribution master didn't properly restore the shot (repeated and/or cut frames).

I performed an extensive visual comparison between some existing media and material 88 Films was provided (raw and restored).


Observe Wong Jing's right hand in Gala's restored master (though at least the stains were cleaned). Elsewhere, there were false positives in the clean (including a disappearing ball).
