I know a lot of people are down on this idea, but i for one am not because i feel like it could be the missing link to bridge adaptations from books, comics etc. into a more "live action" element than the poor attempts we have gotten.

They cannot and won't replace real actors though, i think they'll have a parallel path in movies and be part of maybe much more interactive experiences as mentioned above.

I could be wrong, but isn't that" Bandersnatch" or whatever on Netflix supposed to be their attempt at audience participation to change the story outcomes? Perhaps that sorta thing might do well in cinemas as a gimmick.

Wouldn't that limit the kinds of movies that AI generated actor could be placed in?

Many real actors don't hit their stride until they are older. You are talking about the Peter Pan Syndrome.

I see it happening but it’s more to get around copyrights. Copyright laws last way to long where we have to probably wait 140 years before we get the next Harry Potter book. Copyrights make sense when sombody is using them or plans to use them but 70 years after an authors death is an absurd amount of time to leave intellectual property side lined. At this point i doubt most film will even survive long enough to make it to public domain.

All right, scientists. You have your assignment. Thrill me!
The film would never make it to the end. 100 people each show would pull out phones constantly so Tom cruise talks to them.

3D stereoscopic photography was a big advancement that's been around for about a century and used today in all kinds of applications like medical and design. It's often looked at as a gimmick due to how it's often used in films but it's only natural to want to see depth in movies like we do in real life. Just as HDR is a huge step forward towards realism, I think merging HDR with 3D and higher resolutions (plus smoother framerates once they figure out how to get the technique right without being nauseating) will produce some incredible results that approach or at least convincingly mimic what the human eyes naturally see.

More Premium Format screens, building new 70mm and IMAX film projectors. If Polaroid and vinyl can make a profitable comeback, so can oldschool theater grandeur.

Frankly, when television is releasing shows that far eclipses what's on the big screen these days, why would anyone wanna go to the cinemas? An episode of Succession's given me more creative inspiration than the most acclaimed movie released so far.

How much does that extra cable package cost per month vs a movie ticket?

I'd love to see old school theater grandeur return, but that costs tons of money in a time where everyone is pinching pennies and closing anything that "underperforms" even slightly. And sadly most people these days probably wouldn't care about the grandeur. We're talking about a generation that doesn't know what "stereo" means, listens to all their music through a single Bluetooth speaker, and watches all their entertainment on the phones. Many people don't even own TVs any more.

If the content is that good, the price is worth it. And I don't use cable.

Okay and? Netflix and WB also own historic theaters mostly for the sole purpose of premieres and screening to the press.

Right. There's nothing like that theatre anywhere in my state or the surrounding states.

Used to go there all the time. Saw 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Tron, Mary Poppins, some Alice Comedies with Virginia Davis interviewed live by Leonard Maltin, every new Disney animated feature from Aladdin to Tarzan, other revival screenings like Tron and Mary Poppins and Swiss Family Robinson...

As for the next big thing in cinema, it's like asking what's the next big thing in storytelling. Theater is theater, cinema is cinema, music, poetry, literature, painting, photography, sculpture, dance, theme parks with immersive experiences...cinema is a synthesis of the existing arts that became it's own form of art, video games are still evolving as a synthesis of all the above. Cinema was a technology that developed into a narrative-delivery tool. I think "the next big thing" is going to be some form of new technology we haven't imagined yet.
