Not that my last time was on VHS but I have fond memories of watching the directors cut widescreen VHS one night when I was a teen, I put it on at like 1 in the morning and watched the sun come up after it’d finished

Lol. My buddy and I have joked for years about the late night man-trap that is JFK. The BBC always used to do this thing where they'd spring it on you at about 11pm, after the news, just as you're thinking about going to bed. "And now, tonight's movie... Oliver Stone's JFK" You can tell yourself that you'll just watch a little bit.... but you're in for the whole 3+ hours. There is no turning off JFK.

I rewatched this a couple months back and still consider it one of Stone's best. I'll pick this up. It'd be nice if it contained the theatrical cut.

The Blu-ray isn't very good, so nice to see that a 4K UHD of this is finally on the way.

Even if the Theatrical is superior, I've sort of got used now to the Director's Cut.

JFK is so mesmerising that it tends to (rather unfairly) cast a shadow over Nixon, which I still think is in the upper tier of Stone's films.

This is such a freaking wildly entertaining and brilliantly edited film regardless of how you feel about the subject matter. I’m used to the DC and that’s all we’ve ever had on BD. Be great if WB included both cuts, but doubtful.

Can we get Amadeus now?!

I agree. As history it's downright garbage but as cinema it's a masterpiece.

I'm ready to buy it one more time.

It should include the Theatrical cut, DC, whatever new wacky cuts Stone has been working on, and both versions of JFK Revisited. Maybe even throw in locks of David Ferries eyebrows and grass from the knoll itself for the Ultimate Collectors Set
If Warner stays true to recent form that'll be a hard NO.

Or, if we're "lucky" Region B will get the full-tat edition while we Yanks are left with a bare-bones release (see The Exorcist). Time to start saving up for those import prices.

Cool. It is one of my most watched films since it came out, as I keep hoping that they finally admit that it was a coup! Since this is Warner Brothers, maybe we can finally get "Executive Action" on BD!

How is it garbage as history when it is about Jim Garrison's experiences? What happened to him is what happened to him. Jim was former military, former FBI and a D.A. If you cannot believe a guy with all of those credentials and inside knowledge - who can you believe?

One of my favorites and the timing couldn't be better seeing Robert Kennedy Jr is running and often discusses his Uncle and Dad's assassinations in interviews (seemingly fully confirming what the movie teaches us). Makes this movie as relevant as ever.

I'm not entirely sure what the rights situation is in the UK. The blu-ray was released by 20th Century Fox yet the DVD before that was released by Warner Bros. If that Fox/Disney distribution still stands, then we're unlikely to get anything at all on this side of the pond.

Obviously, 22nd November is the 60th anniversary of the assassination.

Funnily enough, this week I finally got round to watching the blu-ray I’ve had for nearly a decade. It is far from a great transfer.

So will this be crammed onto a single BD-100 or will it come on two discs?

It'll be fine on a BD-100. Warner got The Green Mile onto a single disc, no problem. And that had an aspect ratio of 1.85:1 vs JFK's 2.39:1

It's told from his point of view and what he believed, but it's also embellished and even Stone acknowledges this by referring to the film as the "Counter-myth" to the Warren Commission Report.

Regardless, even if certain aspects of it are bunk, the film itself is so compelling that I willingly allow myself to get caught up in the nonsense aspects of it any time I watch.

BOTH CUTS! BOTH CUTS! BOTH CUTS!

I've only ever saw the Director's Cut. It's been years but I can't remember if there was an intermission or not.
