Sadly, not one of Guillermo's better works. It come off as a straight-to-video title. But, that probably why it went to Netflix instead of one of the bigwig studios. Luckily, if your name is Anderson, Toro, Gilliam, Polanski, Scorsese, or Cronenberg, etc., you're guaranteed a spot in the Criterion Collection. Lest Arrow or Shout! beat them to the punch.

don't think Amazon do based on last one, if it appears within the sale boundary then it does but if it is released after the sale it doesn't

That's incorrect. Since it's coming out in December, it won't qualify for the 50% off sale. The earliest this will likely be half-off will be in Feb/March when Criterion has their 24-hour flash sale.

There was a time when you could pre-order the following month's releases in store at B&N during their sale and get them at 50% off; it relied on them having the new releases in their system. People definitely were able to do that in years past. I wonder if that still works?

What I remember (though I could be wrong):

Criterion (sale in spring) allows preorders in their half-off sale
BN never allows sale price preorders during their half-off sale
