Resident Evil 1 remake rumored for 2026. This should be scary!

The resident evil 2 remake turned out great, so I'll be eagerly waiting for it.

Controversial opinion. Save it for next gen.

My reasons are entirely selfish. I want the best damn tech they can possibly build the game on and not limit themselves for the true horror they can show off.

Resident Evil was actually as a kid with the first zombie reveal which scared me so much I didn't try ever playing again till my mid teens as i was still zombie averse but a few headshots in Code Veronica cured that

I think it would also be amazing to see how they can freshen it up to modern standards for the Spencer Mansion whilst keeping it challenging in those confined areas. I personally never played the other RE remakes yet but hope to at some point when i clear more of my backlog.

RE8 has a lot of weird enemies, including Angie, Heisenberg and so on.
I loved RE8 up until they brought back the old character and the game completely changed tone. The first few hours especially were fantastic. It makes me wish for what could have been.

Then why not wait and put it out on the PS7? PS8 Pro perhaps? I get what you’re saying but you will never play a game on the best tech Sony can possibly build when their systems are pretty much outdated on release, unless they definitively decide to stop making consoles. Plus, a 2026 release date allows Sony to re-release it on the PS6 as a GOTY edition (or whatever they label it).

They did this with RE2 and the police station, and a phenomenal job at that. Even with the change to the 3rd person view, the game was still challenging in confined spaces. I think it’s a safe bet that the RE1 remake will have the same results.

I don’t know what’s in your backlog, but you should make the RE2 and RE4 remakes a priority.

Look, i get that PS6 is probably looking far away with it being in 2028ish, but RE9 which this thread is about is rumoured to release next year. RE8 came out in May 2021. So potentially if there's a remake of RE1 and they want to give it a huge amount of polish, and assuming it wasn't too far along in development due to RE9 being the focus, then it's possible they could do a later release. That said, it's completely selfish and maybe they already would have a PC release mapped out which has higher quality textures, Ray Tracing etc. and they just release a Gold or whatever remastered edition on PS6.

That said, my backlog is quite a few titles but my primary issus is time or lack of it to commit to clearing the backlog despite always buying games i find on offer here and there. Recently picked up Spider-Man 2, Hogwarts and a few others because the price was too good to pass up even if i hold em a bit.

I feel like with RE games, i'll end up getting the special discount bundle they do around Halloween at some point.

RE9, bring back the 3rd person view at launch this time and give the option for first person too. For 2 FPS view games in a row now, Capcom goes back with updates many months later, and adds a 3rd person option. Just put that in from the start please, Capcom/Capsule Computers.

Figured I'd share this, it's still just a potential (but corroborated?) leak at this point though.

According to well-known leaker Dusk Golem and corroborated by IGN, Resident Evil Zero and Code Veronica are the next remake entries for the franchise, though no order was given to their release. Resident Evil Zero originally came out on Nintendo GameCube in 2002 and then received an HD remaster in 2016. Meanwhile, Resident Evil: Code Veronica released on Sega Dreamcast in 2000 before getting an HD remaster in 2011.
Never played either of these myself, so I'm down.

I sincerely hope Code Veronica is first before 0. It needs it a lot more than 0 does.

I'll take whatever remakes they are cooking up alongside Resi 9.

Zero, Code Veronica, Original & 5 would all be fantastic with the modern style third person camera controls.

Hope that's true; Code Veronica is in far more need of work, and a remake of Zero would be a chance to make the mechanics more workable. Both are far more in need than Resident Evil 1.

CV for sure is more important that Zero. Zero has no impact to RE lore pretty much.

Make that story make sense to lead into RE1. It was such a weird game, l didn't find it very engaging and worth my time to ever play again. RE1 (the remake) just kicked it's ass in quality. And then to get Zero... yeah.

I like the idea of CV and Zero remakes instead on RE 1, RE 1 already had a remake and it's pretty good. I was hoping for an RE 5 remake, I just can't mess with this game as the aiming and controls are too crappy.

I'm down for more REmakes, but I really need a Dino Crisis remake.

I'd be fine with a Dino Crisis remake but for me Onimusha is king.

It's a shame the Warlords remaster didn't sell well enough for Capcom to continue but to be honest it was a fairly bare bones effort - no Genma Onimusha mode included and it really should have been a trilogy remaster rather than just the first game, though in an ideal world Dawn of dreams would also be included.

Blade Warriors and Tactics aren't really essential.

Not sure how well the anime has done but anything Onimusha would be welcome.

I always find it funny though when a company has half assed a "remaster" sometimes by outsourcing to incompetent devs and then surprised it didn't do well.

Onimusha was one of the first action/horror esque games i saw my uncle play on PS1 i think, and never got to really play myself but Nioh seemed to be a strong and well done game in the same vein but Onimusha has its own story to be told. Shame they didn't deem it worthy of a proper remake.

I think Dino Crisis could given the guns and dinosaurs be a really good opportunity if handled well to include a MP mode that's pretty great.

Great cinematic trailer. Game looks good for horror, set in the wasteland of Raccoon city after the bomb.

The monsters and mutations will be great no doubt. Exploring the fallout city remains filled with ashes and broken buildings.
