Daredevil: Born Again’s rating has not been announced yet. The only one announced before Echo is Marvel Zombies which is TV-MA too.

Nobody expected this to be TV-MA so maybe Daredevil will be too (As they are reshooting the whole thing anyway)

Looking at stuff like She Hulk which was clearly a more televisual series that played with 90’s sitcom conventions but was advertised as being a major event leaving a lot of people uninterested in the series frustrated they felt they “had” to watch it to follow the MCU (I know She Hulk’s hatred branches from other places too, but it was really amplified by forcing eyes into it). Or Moon Knight which appeared to promise to bring a darker and more mature side to the MCU but now appears to be left dormant without any real larger payoff and just confused. Appeasing neither newcomers and fans of the character because it’s just another spinning plate they might get around the serving on down the line, instead of being a fully fledged narrative piece on it’s own. Secret Invasion to me looked to me like another very low energy, overtly spread out poe face movie strung out into 6 episodes of near zero consequence and revelations you could read in a review or see posted on Twitter. It looked like a show pretending to be serious, slap on serious music and a few ominous sound bites from poe-faced performers and it was enough to make people think it was the real deal, but I saw through it completely and didn’t waste my time. In comparison this looks incredibly stylish, grounded and confident, and the fact they’re releasing the series as a whole over weekly episodes suggests not that it’s being dumped, but actually a consideration for how these shows have been made and consumed. They claim they’re supposed to be 6 hour movies, but they’re broken up illogically and are filled out, really leaving 5 episodes of filler and the last episode only really offering any important ramifications. It’s one of the reasons I’m waiting for the second season of Loki to finish before watching because there’s a good chance they’ll undo any important narrative developments by the end of the show to ensure it doesn’t step on the toes of anything else. I think by stretching the franchise so thin people have checked out of the overall narrative of the franchise, and becoming more picky with what they’re spending their time on, at least I know I have. We’ve got The Marvels next week and I know it looks like doom and gloom box office wise, mainly because it’s really unclear where it sits on a priority standpoint now that the facade of a tightly constructed narrative has fallen. I think the film looks pretty decent but you can tell they’ve struggled to make an event out of it. And I don’t think Marvel is in such a bad place, Guardians Vol. 3 was a hit and Loki season 2 is supposedly delivering, but I do think the push for streaming and the confused approach towards introducing new characters and concepts has shifted the franchise into a diluted place, instead of embracing new formats for a new era and innovated, they’ve clutched onto their old formula and selling points to breaking point. Hopefully Echo can at least highlight a new approach for the brand and sell itself over being another slice of the MCU you have to keep track of. |

I think a part of dropping the whole series at once is due to Echo being a hard sale. I don't think Daredevil and Kingpin are running around episode 1 and they want the hype to be there.

Well, yeah, it kinda has to be if you're bringing in Punisher. And Jon Bernthal said he'd only do it if they weren't gonna water his character down (he said it himself, he's only interested in doing it right), so, yeah, all the pieces appear to be falling in place. What sense would that make if the bald rando gets to headshot people onscreen, but not Frank?

Yep, I knew Deadpool 3 was the only R-rated in MCU happening and Marvel Zombies anime as TV-MA but to hear that Blade will be R-rated also means Kevin is realizing some comic books are not all meant to be PG-13. MCU should have both PG-13 and R-rating horror.

The last few Marvel shows I haven't watched/finished because they didn't hold my attention enough to care to check back each week, and by the time they were over, I have yet to feel the need to go back and watch them (because frankly, if anything cool happened, I would already know about it). If it's something you can binge at once, at the start, I'm actually going to be much more inclined to watch the whole thing. |
