Adaptation.

There's just something really inspiring about it.

I would have to say---

The Bond series
The Austin Powers series
The Dirty Harry series

I could watch any of those anytime, anyplace, from the beginning or well into the running time, on disc, on TV... etc.

American Movie

Hopeful and hopeless at the same time. Reminds of where I grew up.

Lots of older ones, but the most recent for me is The Martian. It's the only movie from this century that I could literally watch over and over and every time it's like sitting down to a very nicely prepared meatloaf and mashed potato dinner that just hits the spot every time.

Field of Dreams is one of my all-time favorite movies, along with the first Back to the Future. Both are father-son stories, and I never got to know my old man very well before he passed away almost three years ago, so I connect with such movies on a wish fulfillment level.

National Lampoon's Vacation (1983) - Mirrors much of my life in the 80's, I watch it whenever I'm feeling nostalgic.

Lapland Odyssey (2010) - I'm half Finnish and watch this several times a year, mainly for the scenery (it's a road trip movie) but also for the humor.

That Thing You Do! (1996)

I could never have a "favorite" movie - there are far, far too many that I love - but this may be my ultimate comfort food film. It makes me feel good. I love the characters, the music and the time period. Plus, having spend most of my life in local bands, I love how accurate the details are. Tom Hanks wrote it, directed it, acted in it, and co-wrote several of the songs, and if I ever meet him I will give him my sincere thanks.

I reckon I've watched these at least 20 times and counting. My 'comfort food' can be weird

The Apartment (Billy Wilder)
Raiders Of The Lost Ark (Spielberg)
Sixteen Candles (John Hughes)
Cinema Paradiso (Giuseppe Tornatore)
Breaking The Waves (Lars von Trier)
Lost Highway (David Lynch)

The Blackening. I have showed it to my boyfriend, parents, and a close friend of mine, and we all were laughing hysterically. It's seriously such a slept-on movie.

Them! and The Lord of the Rings trilogy are definitely on my short list. The Thing (Carpenter), The Valley of Gwangi, and Silver Bullet are on it as well. But my two most watched and known inside and out movies would be The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms and Horror of Dracula. Gwangi is still my fav but I watch Beast and Dracula the most.
