Good to see a mention of Blue Ruin. A film I really like. Focuses on a small number of people but does so in a very effective way. Have seen it a couple of times or more. For some reason, don't think I got round to watching Green Room, so will put that on my list of titles to view.

Kelly Reichardt - haven't seen all of her films yet but every one I have has been a slow burning, utterly beautiful gem, full of compassion:
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Certain Women is amazing - at first you think the picture is low res and grungy*, but the more it goes on the more like an old master it becomes. It would look fabulous on UHD. * Not helped by some atrocious encoding on the Criterion. |

Garrone is one guy I'd trust to make a film about the movement of people west or north. No fear or favour with him. Unlike so many others. Last edited by trobrianders; 11-23-2023 at 10:09 AM. |

Speaking of River of Grass, Larry Fessenden - who is a real legend of the indie horror scene at this point, and I always enjoy his numerous cameos - has one of the leading roles in that film, but he also directed some really good films, even if his directorial record is pretty inconsistent. This collection in particular is wonderful, with two very good films (No Telling, and Wendigo), and one of my all time favourite films of any genre, Habit (which is his take on vampire fiction, but it's more of a psychological existential drama than horror). ![]() Unfortunately, it's locked to region A, but it's pretty affordable on Amazon.co.uk at the moment, sitting at just £43.67. I don't know if I've ever seen it that low, so if you can watch it, I'd definitely give it a recommendation. |

For people who understand french, Marcel l'Herbier is starting to be quite well represented on blu-ray :

Artificial Eye pre-owned is just about the best bargain for quality films/transfers you can get. From CEX and Magpie. Magpie edges it for its free delivery. With CEX you have to add £1.95 to everything.
