The ps3 is so much better because it reads so fast.
The ps3 reads so fast cause its got the cell processor.
The ps3 has the cell processor because it needs it for games.
Sony loses somthing like 600 dollars... or somewhere around there off EVERY PS3 SOLD.
They make their money back by game sales, not by blu-ray movies.

For them to make a blu-ray player capable of the ps3s abilities, they would have to lost a gagillion dollars per second. ...which is an exaggeration...... but they'd still lost 600 dollars off every player which they would not make back.

I strongly recommend buying a ps3. Not only can it play BD movies, but its also an amazing game console, video player, eventual TV tuner, Internet browser, The playstation store is great, firmware updates are constant, you can listen to music on it, upgrade the hard drive freely, view pictures that get upscaled to HD immediately, check out 3D slideshows, use remote play, or even install on Operating System on it.
I use my PS3 with Ubuntu Linux on it one heck of alot more then my PC.

The ps3 is the best, and cheapest blu-ray player... and it will be for a LONG time.
