I do think the rumour mill has span out a little out of proportion here. I imagine the press release next week will be the begin of a drip feed and gradual shift as opposed to a huge splash. They will likely announce the likes of Bethesda and Activision games being cross-gen with perhaps timed exclusivity to Xbox or Gamepass, however it’s happening. Double AA stuff will get ported with the announcements of Hi-Fi Rush and some other stuff, likely confirmation of Starfield.
I doubt we’ll have stuff like Gears or Halo any time soon, I imagine it’ll be full meltdown if they even hinted that at this event, but clearly one day it’s coming. |

As a PS5’r, only XBOX exclusive I’d be interested in is Hellblade 2. (Slightly curious about the Indiana Jones game coming out in December) |

It’s difficult to see MS 100% abandonment of “Console” seller games. It would definitely make headlines as that would be a far-more radical move from MS. Putting Bethesda/Activision//////// games onto PS ain’t that big of a deal IMO. |

Here is what a lot of people are not understanding. Consumers who decided to stick it out with Xbox this generation, and only bought an Xbox, are actually feeling betrayed at the moment. Even by the rumor of Xbox console exclusives coming to PlayStation. Go on Twitter and read how a large majority of the community is feeling. In their minds, if the PlayStation is going to continue to have exclusive games and the Xbox is not, then they’re being given no reason to stick with Xbox. Because Phil Spencer has yet to deny the rumor, there are already people canceling their Game Pass Ultimate subscriptions and trading in their Series X consoles for a PS5. If Microsoft’s future is indeed Game Pass, putting their games on PS5 is more than likely going to cost them just as much money in subscription loss that they will gain in additional game sales. Especially with Sony taking a 30% cut on all sales.
It comes down to how things are still viewed in the console market. Honestly, console exclusives should have died out a long time ago. It would force companies to reel us in with their hardware, their ecosystem and their features, rather than a handful of exclusive games. The video game world still lives and breathes exclusives, however. This is why a lot of people are speculating that, if Microsoft is going to give their exclusives to PlayStation, they’re probably indicating that the future of Xbox consoles is coming to an end. Because in the console world, exclusives are your ONLY commodity. And how THAT is making Xbox users feel is that they’ve wasted all kinds of money on buying games for a digital library that may not exist in a few years. That they’ve wasted all kinds of time on earning achievements in games for a system that may not matter in a few years, unless they switch to PC. After sticking it out with Xbox, they were finally about to see a good number of exclusive titles in the next few years. That they would be rewarded after staying loyal through the disaster that was the Xbox One. And Microsoft giving up those exclusives is like having the rug pulled out from under their feet. Sure, Sony was amidst a format war when they released the PS3. But they released it at twice the price of their competition. They were banking on the dominance of their brand to sustain the price gap. And, it cost them ground to the Xbox 360. It then pushed them to create a better ecosystem for the PlayStation. To make better first party titles. To take risks. Competition fuels the market. If this is Xbox waving the white flag, the future does not look very bright for console gaming. |

Yup. Plus, you can have all the multiplatform, sports, racing, GAAS and MULTIPLAYER games you want. But… The reason people buy CONSOLES is to play quality, exclusive, single player games. It’s the ONE thing Microsoft failed at. They had MP hits, they have sports games, they have great service and value, they were the pioneers of online console gaming, they have everything on their platform they need to succeed except quality single player exclusives that Sony and Nintendo have in droves. Think about it: Whats the difference between PlayStation and Xbox? They both offer the same exact stuff, one just has an onslaught of quality single player exclusives the other doesn't. Nintendo? Oh yeah, quality single player exclusives. Quality single player exclusives are what give your console an identity. They are the Game of The Year winners, which help give your console recognition. They are the games people talk about decades later. Xbox doesn't have that. And it cost them their brand. |

Quality single player games are also starting to dry up. The cost to create them is not sustainable at current game prices, without micro transactions to make up the difference. It’s why we’re only seeing a handful of them release per year, now, across all platforms. And the vast majority of them are sequels with dedicated fan bases. Everything else single player is either remasters or remakes. The dev cycle on these large single player games is 4 - 5 years and they cost hundreds of millions of dollars to bankroll. If you can’t tell, Sony is struggling right now with content, themselves. Their drip of first party games has completely fallen off. The only actual first party Sony title releasing this year is probably going to be Foamstars. A multiplayer driven Splatoon rip off, and it was given away as a PlayStation Plus game. Their only first party release in all of 2023 was Spider-Man 2.

Xbox may still be used as a vehicle for a specific console experience but MS is not going to leave a load of money on the table if they think they can pad their bottom line and Sony just needs to be shown its enough to get over any optics. They already spun PlayStation games on PC afterall. I think Halo is going to get a remake at some point soon for the original dated looking games and so is Gears ot War which will only be Xbox exclusive for a while before going to PC if not straight away. I personally think if the traditional 3rd party studios games can come to PlayStation and we get to enjoy Elder Scrolls and Fallout etc. then that's what i'd really want. The MS/Xbox exclusives would just be a nice cherry if given. |

Microsoft Isn’t Going Fully Multiplatform or Exiting the Console Market, Says Leaker
https://wccftech.com/microsoft-isnt-...t-says-leaker/ As noted above, I didn't want to report on it until a release window was finalized -- meaning plans remain open to change. Microsoft will bring select games multiplat. That I have confidence in. People are making wild assumptions that EVERY game is going multiplat -- which is not the case. Nor is Microsoft going to exit the hardware industry. The multiplat strategy is a slight shift in strategy, in which SOME titles go multiplat. MS will keep high profile games exclusive. |

I do wish it was a free for all and consoles were like DVD, blu ray UHD players where there aren't any exclusive titles per format. Unlike back in the early HDDVD vs Blu Ray days where each format did the same thing, but had exclusive titles. That was BS. |

I was considering buying XBSX if a Fallout 5 released on there, but now I have a newer PC and already played Starfield, which was just okay but not great, so my ambition is tempered for XBSX for now, with PC. But this could take more than a year to unfold, maybe by 2025 for certain games. I hope Bethesda games release on PS5 a year after they were on XBSX. I can handle a year wait, no issue. Bethesda was always 3rd party, so it was very disappointing when they traded sides midwar after the 2020 releases of the consoles. An unfair move, and so was Sony buying Bunjee (Spelling?). |
