Great news! This series has enough characters that they can continue to find stories to tell. Although I agree Matthew Goode’s character needs to just be written out at this point, he clearly doesn’t care to do these movies anymore (although he’s fine with showing up in Abigail for two minutes).

[Show spoiler] alone, they could have at the very least flown him in for a quick cameo to save face for the character. Now it's going to feel so forced if there's a divorce or death during the (implied) 2 year "time jump" from 1928 to 1930 for this movie.

Really enjoyed the final film in the series, and can't wait to watch it again.
The whole Downton Abbey franchise has been in notably good hands throughout the last 15 years, and it's almost heartbreaking to know that this time, it is really over - Julian Fellowes has explained why he can't continue telling the story of the Crawleys. As always, the filmmakers have done an incredibly good job balancing a myriad characters and storylines into a coherent confection, one that is very much enjoyable to those of us who loved the series and the previous two movies. This one benefits particularly from bringing in Paul Giamatti (Harold) and Arty Froushan as Noël Coward; there is also a magnificently droll Simon Russell Beale (he played Dionysus in Thor: Love & Thunder) in a small but important role. If you're a fan of DA, you will not be disappointed. |

What a PERFECT send off for this show and their characters. After a middle chapter that lacked a grounded plot, Fellowes really landed this plane with so much care and love. Glad they gave Michelle Dockery a meatier storyline to go out on. The final sequence, truly could not handle seeing Maggie knowing she’s gone but again, they truly honored her legacy on the show in the most admirable way. |

I saw it today in England, it's brilliant.
I wrote to Julian Fellowes after the second film to suggest some of my story ideas including [Show spoiler]

Saw it today with my best friend and loved it! It was more lowkey than the first 2 films, but such a fantastic treat to see in a theater almost sold out. So many jokes and references from the past and a truly great finale 3 minutes that made me glad I brought tissues.
I’m sure years from now it will be brought back somehow (probably focused on George and Sybie) - but as it stands I’m happy with the ending. I also have to say that I was very touched by Barrows end game. Getting his happy ending. |
