Great news! This series has enough characters that they can continue to find stories to tell. Although I agree Matthew Goode’s character needs to just be written out at this point, he clearly doesn’t care to do these movies anymore (although he’s fine with showing up in Abigail for two minutes).

I wonder how they'll hide Matthew Goode's absence for a 3rd time.

It looks like Mary might get remarried to a royal? Why does he not want to return anyway??

I think in past entries it was "schedule conflicts" or something. But honestly, after the first movie, as soon as they didn't have him for the second, they probably should have written him out. To not even have him there for Lady Grantham
[Show spoiler]'s funeral
alone, they could have at the very least flown him in for a quick cameo to save face for the character. Now it's going to feel so forced if there's a divorce or death during the (implied) 2 year "time jump" from 1928 to 1930 for this movie.

A “Downton Abbey” primetime special is set to air on NBC to celebrate the third and final film in the “Downton” franchise before its theatrical release.

Variety has learned exclusively that NBC will air “Downton Abbey Celebrates The Grand Finale” on Sept. 10 at 9 p.m. ET/PT and streaming the next day on Peacock. The one-hour special will feature conversations with the cast of the film as they reunite in London at the Savoy Hotel to share memories and never-before-heard stories from their time with the show and the films.

Those set to appear on the special are: Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Raquel Cassidy, Michelle Dockery, Kevin Doyle, Michael Fox, Joanne Froggatt, Paul Giamatti, Harry Hadden-Paton, Allen Leech, Phyllis Logan, Elizabeth McGovern, Sophie McShera, Lesley Nicol and Penelope Wilton as well as production designer Donal Woods, costume designer Anna Mary Scott Robbins, and composer John Lunn.

In addition, the special will also feature a world exclusive sneak preview scene from “Downtown Abbey: The Grand Finale,” which is due to hit theaters on Sept. 12. Beginning Sept. 1, audiences can also catch up on all six seasons of “Downton Abbey” as well as the first two films on Peacock.

NBC’s “Downton Abbey Celebrates The Grand Finale” is produced by UTAS UK Productions. “Downton Abbey: The Grand Finale” is a Carnival Films production, with Focus Features and Universal Pictures International distributing. Carnival Films is part of Universal International Studios.

Really enjoyed the final film in the series, and can't wait to watch it again.

The whole Downton Abbey franchise has been in notably good hands throughout the last 15 years, and it's almost heartbreaking to know that this time, it is really over - Julian Fellowes has explained why he can't continue telling the story of the Crawleys.

As always, the filmmakers have done an incredibly good job balancing a myriad characters and storylines into a coherent confection, one that is very much enjoyable to those of us who loved the series and the previous two movies.

This one benefits particularly from bringing in Paul Giamatti (Harold) and Arty Froushan as Noël Coward; there is also a magnificently droll Simon Russell Beale (he played Dionysus in Thor: Love & Thunder) in a small but important role.

If you're a fan of DA, you will not be disappointed.

5/5

What a PERFECT send off for this show and their characters. After a middle chapter that lacked a grounded plot, Fellowes really landed this plane with so much care and love.

Glad they gave Michelle Dockery a meatier storyline to go out on.

The final sequence, truly could not handle seeing Maggie knowing she’s gone but again, they truly honored her legacy on the show in the most admirable way.

I saw it today in England, it's brilliant.

I wrote to Julian Fellowes after the second film to suggest some of my story ideas including
[Show spoiler]a con-man at Downton.

Saw it today with my best friend and loved it! It was more lowkey than the first 2 films, but such a fantastic treat to see in a theater almost sold out. So many jokes and references from the past and a truly great finale 3 minutes that made me glad I brought tissues.

I’m sure years from now it will be brought back somehow (probably focused on George and Sybie) - but as it stands I’m happy with the ending.

I also have to say that I was very touched by Barrows end game. Getting his happy ending.
