I think that is a perfect solution. The project should be backed in one or two days easily. Put a stretch goal like pressed discs in the mix and watch it really take off.

Same here. That is the best version I've seen ever, with HD quality, all color restored, while every other DVD version I've seen prior were muddy and from what looks like a VHS source unfortunately, most times with sepia fading. But what an awesome horror film. SPOILER: The
[Show spoiler]monster sears the eyes of anyone who stares at it, turning them into drones under its control on a small train heading towards doom.

I hope they have a great source for this classic film in terms of picture quality.

I'm waiting to see how the 3D conversion turns out with Last Man on Earth. Hopefully it arrives in the mail shortly.

It's actually better on repeat viewings imo. Even now after spending several months with this film I'll be reviewing something and catch myself just watching the movie again.

Obviously Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing are in top form here but Telly Savalas is an absolute hoot in this!

And yes the model trains look great, the makeup work is surprisingly good and just overall the production values are solid. This does *not* come across as a film with a 300K budget. For something made over 50 years ago it's hard to find too much fault with any of the visuals.

I really hope people enjoy this one, especially people seeing it for the first time.

Cool to hear. How do you like the way the 3D turned out?
For the picture source, did your team restore the picture quality? Is it an HD source? A classic movie IMO.

As usual I have gone for the cheapest disc option but would double my pledge for a proper pressed disc.

I’m in for the platinum edition! Although, I really REALLY want the lenticular slipcover (is there any way we can see what the artwork is going to be on that?), but I can’t justify an extra $200 just for that, as I could live without the vinyl, novel and CD soundtrack, as cool as those are. (Well, ok, I admit, the CD soundtrack is very tempting too.) I gotta say though, it’s pretty amazing the stuff AIPOP came up with for the Station Master level; if only I could have afforded it and gotten in early. I do hope the lenticular cover will be made available separately at some point, and, going forward, I hope a lenticular cover might be included in a more affordable tier for AIPOP’s next releases, because lenticular covers are awesome and would be available for all 3-D Blu-ray releases if I ruled the world. (I remain forever grateful that the 3-DFA saw fit to include an absolutely smashing lenticular insert for their amazing 3-D restoration of ROBOT MONSTER at an affordable tier, especially on top of all the blood, sweat, tears, years, and $$$ they spent on bringing that project to fruition). But at any rate, I’m SUPER stoked for the platinum pack of the 3-D conversion of HORROR EXPRESS, one of the best horror movies ever made, which also rests firmly in my top ten films of all time, of any genre. Yep, it’s THAT good, folks. Hopefully we can hit that third stretch goal and get a proper pressed disc! And, I’m curious about the monochrome version, as it never occurred to me I’d want to see it that way, because the lovely use of color is essential for the sets and costumes and glowing red bits…but now I kinda do.

And, wow, we’re at 52% in just a few hours!

I did check out the clips through that Kickstarter video link.
Looks like they're using a great Horror Express 2D source (rather than the old, muddy VHS version I have on DVD, but also have the blu ray Arrow HD version which looks awesome finally in HD after all those years watching the muddy version of this awesome horror film with a monster in a crate on a train), and with those clips shown, mild to some medium layers of 3D from a brief look, which is impressive for a 2 person AIPOP team.

I'm very interested to back the project, but first need to receive and then test that the blu ray 3D of Horror Express lives up to that quality and plays on my PS3 and PS4 blu ray 3D players. If so, I'll be happy to back Horror Express 3D too.

It's just that it launched so early before I even received the prior funded blu ray 3D to test it out. My general rule is always wait for the first product before backing the next.

Have others tested the Last Man on Earth blu ray 3D kickstarter funded disc with a PS3 or PS4 blu ray player? Any playback issues? Or does it run great for polarized 3D?

Long story short is that I'm not a huge fan of color anaglyph and generally prefer it for black and white, though replacing the color anaglyph version wasn't something we'd consider. I did a test run and that snowballed into the full blown second disc idea after Andrew and I both started to lean towards preferring the black and white version (I don't recall Alex's preference). Obviously not everything is going to play as well, but overall it sort of makes the movie feel like it fits in with the 40s and 50s era monster movies to me. Pujardov especially I feel comes across as more menacing in several shots. I assume we'll drop some footage at some point.

We can't get End Game type depth but we do try to make sure it's a solid 3D experience. I can honestly say that I like the 3D in Horror Express better than some studio releases I own, but that is of course just my opinion.
fyi we generally operate as a team of three (myself, Alex and Andrew). One person performs the conversion and the work is peer reviewed by the other two.

Andrew would be most qualified to answer but I don't remember any communications from PS3/4 owners related to earlier releases so I'd guess that no news is good news.

I’m definitely interested in the monochrome version for curiosity’s sake, though I can’t imagine I’ll end up preferring it, due to the aforementioned importance of the color to the sets, costumes and all-important glowy red bits. Perhaps it would be more effective if only the glowy red bits were in color, like a Schindler’s List kind of a thing. Now that I’m thinking more about it, the Schindler’s List treatment sounds like a great idea if I do say so myself.

I’m hoping for more and better depth and more and better negative parallax than in previous AIPOP releases. There was some pretty impressive depth in a few shots in Nightmare Castle, the long dining table for instance. And you got some amazing depth out of that Dune 2 trailer. House on Haunted Hill had some pretty impressive negative parallax in some shots. I’m hoping for all of the same plus better for Horror Express. You’ve all proved that good depth and good negative parallax can be done with these painstaking DIY conversions. I’m ready for the knockout 3-D punch. Lay it on me.

Looks like the remainder of the Last Man on Earth blu ray 3Ds are shipping out by the end of this week about according to the AIPOP blog I read, so that's cool. Still time to check it out when it arrives before the Horror Express 3D deadline of May 21, 2024. Today being April 23.

Yes I've had to bite my tongue on a few occasions!

Sadly this evening we're further away from a pressed disc as we were at £8,000 when I checked this morning and we're at £7800 now. Were going in reverse!

I've been pulling together some of Phil's great clips/trailers from his "Star Wars" archive as well as a few of my own bits and pieces which we're gonna share - not necessarily entirely relevant to "Horror Express" per se, but shows off some of Phil's superb conversion skills and this stuff is looking great... although I've never seen it I'd bet this is as good as, or better than the official Star Wars conversions that never saw the light of day.
