The standard art is cheesier (and incorrect as it uses Englund’s wardrobe from one of the sequels) than the steelbook. The steelbook is a weird mishmash—thelate 70s/early 80s WHV logo and genre ‘sticker’ are a nice touch but incongruous as this film was not a WHV property back then, and pairing those finishes with art from the Infinifilm DVD release is just incoherent.

I reckon I’ll just buy the standard, toss the slipcover and inner sleeve and use my old custom Blu-ray insert with the original poster art

I keep going back and forth on which one I'll buy. It's like picking the best one out of the worst artwork they came up with.

As of now I'm leaning towards the standard mainly because it's an awesome pic of Freddy (I can forgive the wrong sweater) and it has the OG logo

I hate that the majority of the big studio 4k releases especially have to have that second banner making sure everybody realizes it is INDEED 4k. Some look much worse then others and sadly this one is among the worst imo. Absolutely agree though that it's pretty much a pick your poison situation and I can understand people going in both directions.

I'm not hating the retro vhs look of the Steelbook as much a day later though (It's a grower!) and I also like the spine much more which is what i'll see most of the time so i'll likely go with that unless I see a much cheaper pre-order for the standard.

I am going to wait for a release with better artwork. The steelbook looks ridiculous and the standard looks like some cheesy WalMart shit. Why couldn't they just use the original artwork? FFS!

I'm pretty sure the "standard" is the "wide release".

Will be cancelling my preorder for the 4K with that artwork. Was hoping for some version of the original artwork.

Happy to keep my German mediabook blu-ray for now, which did it right.

It's not real. Just something I made with the original artwork.

So glad I nabbed that from DiabolikDVD when I did. Just about as perfect of a 40th Anniversary Edition as you can get.

The only thing preventing it from being complete perfection though is the OG on the Steelbook itself..

The steelbook in the UK collector’s edition does have the original artwork. The outer box is what has the new artwork.

I see the same steelbook that the US retailers are selling.

The original artwork from the poster is on the slip case in the UK Collector's Edition.

Look again. The steelbook is slimmer and has rounded edges. The outer case (with the old school WHV logo and ‘Horror’ genre “sticker”) is taller and wider, this is to accommodate all the contents of the deluxe package.

UK/EU SteelBook is different to North America release

UK Mock Up image SteelBook is on the left
The UK/EU SteelBook has the original poster artwork that was used with the original VHS and Soundtrack releases.

Then next to the SteelBook is the Rigid Slipcase showing it’s front and back artwork
Slipcase has BBFC/IFCO age rating logos.

The SteelBook back and inside artwork is not in the mock up only shows the front artwork.

North America SteelBook is using the UK/EU Rigid Slipcase Artwork
