Question NC-17 or bust

I have a question for KL Support:

It's about one of August highlights, "When Night Is Falling."

This movie was rated NC-17, which was surrendered, so it was released "unrated." Then an edited R-rated version was released on video.

There's no mention of any of this on the Kino blu-ray package of the film:

https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/When-...lu-ray/359596/

but I take for granted that what you're offering is the original, uncensored version, am I right?

WHEN NIGHT IS FALLING is newly restored from filmmaker and is the original uncut version. Same version on Blu-ray and as released earlier this season in repertory theaters.

On August 15th as part of our Auteurs series we will be running three films from Patricia Rozema:
Mouthpiece
When Night is Falling
White Room

Talking Bray me a river

Now, don't get me wrong, as a connoisseur of the 7th Art, I really appreciate how KFC is shaping up.

Still, I'd be remiss if I didn't admit that, more than all the artsy-fartsy stuff, what would really beam me up to heaven is if/when the 7 movies of "Francis the Talking Mule" are added to the service.

I've never seen any of them, but I remember as a child that mentioning "Francis the Mule," usually as an insult, was commonplace among the eldest adults, which proves how popular the character once was.

Some good news, our Android app has been approved and you can now watch on Android devices (phones, tablets, and supported TVs). I have it running right now on my Sony Bravia.

Criterion Wwtccd?

I've spent the last few days watching all the AMERICAN FILM THEATRE movies and I'd like to comment on a couple of things.

First, if these were owned by the Criterion Channel, they would be neatly gathered into a collection of their own, an AMERICAN FILM THEATRE Collection that would be promoted at the top carousel of the app, or even spotlighted in the monthly news bulletin. In its infancy, KFC still has a lot to learn from their far more advanced competitors.

Second, while watching the 4-hour long THE ICEMAN COMETH I was baffled at how the movie alternates between well-lit footage and darkened segments. It took me 2 hours to realize, halfway through the movie, the reason behind this.

In an Eureka moment, it finally dawned on me that a 4-hour movie has sadly, necessarily been released in edited-down, butchered versions, so the dark fragments were the excised footage that ended in the editing room floor, and the full-version that I was watching had incorporated them seamlessly, aside from the visual tone, into the footage of the film.

Thumbs up

Well done.

Now, if you could only put subtitles on "PHILADELPHIA, HERE I COME" which is the only movie in the collection without them, my happiness would be complete.

Arrow American Film Theatre Highlights

Those captions can't come handy enough for those of us who don't understand a word of Irish.

PHILADELPHIA, HERE I COME is indeed one my higher recommendations in the AFT collection, along with the biopics GALILEO and LUTHER, both subtly but fiercely anti-religious; the delirious THE MAN IN THE GLASS BOOTH, with an unhinged Maximilian Schell, and of course BUTLEY, with an equally unleashed Alan Bates.

Then there's the 4-hour ICEMAN COMETH, well worth your time, and in general all the movies in the collection are of interest.

Arrow More exposure

I don't know if my insistent petitions to them are the reason behind this, but the site https://www.whentostream.com/ has started at last to include KFC in their news:

Exclamation Subtitles, please

Hi, KL Support:

I'd like to request closed captioning on "When Eight Bells Toll" and "Cabo Blanco."

Probably an oversight on both films, right?

We just re-loaded the caption files, hopefully okay now.
