anyway, this reminds me to check out Avowed, and Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is coming later this month, will try to play and/or delete both games before Doom

Pretty great having South of Midnight, Expedition 33 and Doom (and even earlier Avowed) right before the Switch 2 launch. Good couple of months.

This is when I'm grateful for Gamepass. Loved 2016, HATED Eternal, so I wouldn't plunk down for this without a demo.

I wasn't particularly excited for Doom or Eternal, but everything that has been shown for Doom The Dark Ages just puts a smile on my face. It seems wasteful but I'm tempted to buy the premium upgrade for early access (then buy the base game when it gets discounted). You are right though, smart move is to just wait for it to launch on GP.

I don't pay much attention to reviews but they are popping up now, I am curious about performance though. TL,DW:

Graphics: Series S < PS5 < Series X < PS5 Pro
Performance: Series S < PS5 < PS5 Pro < Series X

No PC info here, but that will obviously be the best possible experience or the worst possible experience, depending on your equipment.

Those are very opposite reactions for what does kinda feel like very similar sort of games. May I ask why?

Mind, I started to dislike Eternal towards the end more and more as I felt it became just obnoxious, more enemies, more, more more!!!! But not really inspiration.

And I guess 'more of the same' could be a criticism in itself.

Doom 2016 is lean and replayable, basic shooter fun start to finish
Doom Eternal has better gameplay, introduced fun new mechanics, but it’s too bloated and repetitive, encounters are tedious by the end

16 and Eternal are nothing alike other than the IP. Eternal is a near constant ballet of managing your resources every single encounter and is MUCH more kinetic. You must learn the mechanics in Eternal and you must execute otherwise you’re left with empty weapons. Also the Marauder can eat a dick.

Just opened the Nvidia app and was surprised to see an icon in the redeem section. A Doom Slayer Verdant skin was there.

Finished the first chapter. Pretty fun but so far not drawing me in like 2016 or Eternal. The game certainly looks incredible and performs very well on PC. Not really into the cutscenes but at least they can be skipped.

Downloading again. Windows Store version sat at 100% with an error for the past 3 days. Nothing would make it finish up.

Got it set up. Game said I needed more recent drivers to play but you can bypass that. I'm not getting off of the December Nvidia drivers until they decide to fix a lot of stuff. Some settings on Nightmare, the rest one notch down. Texture pool set at 4.5GB and I'm around 160fps.

I had the same error on one of my PCs. Not sure why. I have very similar hardware on both my office and gaming PCs and they both had the updated drivers. Last night I was able to start right up and plan in my media room but when I checked my office setup I still had that same error message and couldn't start. Redownloading now.

There seems to be a known issue with this game since you get a warning about crashing at startup as soon as you boot it up.

I turned on the Ultra Nightmare system performance settings on PC while tweaking. Just got it installed on Xbox and did NOT expect that toggle to carry over considering there's no toggle for it on Xbox.

If aiming feels heavy on controller turn down or off Aim Accelerating. At 0% it's extremely snappy.
