I hope we see Jakob the Liar soon that’s a heartbreaking film quite sad in fact. Most of his other films already have Blu-Rays although there are a few that still don’t have one with one of them being Toys which is a very weird movie, and I watched it a long time ago and it’s a very strange movie.

Awesome movie, though it should be in 4K! Haven't watched this for almost a decade or two. Used to be on HBO back in the day.

Fond memories of the one time I've seen this. It was the first DVD I watched on my first HDTV in the early '00s, a Panasonic RPTV. The colors in the opening scene were just stunning to me in my first HD at home experience.

Insomnia is also another great film he starred in this one with Al Pacino it’s a film I don’t own yet even though Criterion put the film on Blu-Ray I haven’t picked it up yet.
The Criterion blu-ray of Insomnia is the original Norwegian version of the film from 1997 starring Stellan Skarsgård. The 2004 film was Christopher Nolan's remake and was released by Warner's themselves.

I've been waiting for this to come out. I don't even consider myself much of a Robin Williams fan, but the whole cast is great in this. The movie is insanely quotable:

"Don't make the same mistake I did. Keep your dignity intact."
(spills coffee)
"Ahh, my balls! They're on fire!"

Still one of my favorite early 2000s comedies. Somehow Ed Norton pulls off the good-natured sap in the midst of a ruthlessly cynical industry. Robin Williams turns in another classic whirling dervish turn, and Catherine Keener has never been hotter.

"Look what you've done to this place. It's all Diane Fossey. When I lived here, it was Bob Fosse! Right there, I had a big painting of a naked chick holding a little plant; very tasteful, no bush. Not a picture of your f**king mother!"

All about that pink skirt in the third act.

Discussed it in other threads, but even the old dvds like the first issues of Labyrinth and Total Recall looked amazing back then for those of us coming straight from vhs. Still remember thinking it was like looking through a window. And those earliest catalog dvds may have even been using LD masters. Anamorphic dvds even from the early 2ks can still look fine, but the non-anamorphic ones may be less forgiving now without a CRT tv.

I was being such a tit when I saw this in the theater, because I was disappointed in not being able to see the rerelease of E.T. I said I wouldn’t laugh at the movie but when that line came up, I couldn’t help it and just lost it.

I don't remember a damn thing about this except it tanked and was ripped by Hollywood critics, so maybe that means it's good

It is a good movie. Don't listen to the critics. Williams and Norton were excellent in this but Keener stole the show imo.

You have no idea how ecstatic I am to finally get this on Blu Ray. Death to Smoochy is one of my all-time favorite movies, if not my favorite of all time.

I recently read Harvey Fierstein's autobiography and he spoke about a deleted scene of him in a car in Times Square where he scared the s**t out of another actor. Can't remember whom. Did that make it to the deleted scene collection?

It's been a while since I've seen this and it might have only been on cable.

I had already been in on DVD since the earliest days (had an old Pioneer combo LD/DVD player). But the combination of my first 1080p TV with that Rainbow Ralphie opening with all the colors was pretty stunning.

I really liked the film and rank it right up there with War of the Roses in DeVito's filmography. Not as big a fan of Throw Mama From the Train

I've been paying attention to the WB archives releases thinking it would pop up there at some point. I was NOT expecting it from Shout, but what an awesome surprise.

While he is certainly an antagonist for a good portion of the film I don't know if I would call Williams and out-and-out villain in Smoochy.

You're right I really need to buy both of these films later this year as I've only seen the remake not the original.
