Just finished watching it. It's certainly a movie.

Sarcasm aside, it's fine. It's really style over substance, but it has a hell of a lot of style - those visuals really pop. Sorta feels like the live action Josie and the Pussycats with demons and a dash of Buffy. It's really weird and out there for a premise.

Really fantastic. Is there any indication at all that this'll get a physical release like Mitchells vs The Machines did, or was that a fluke since it only got sold to Netflix because of covid?

Unlike Mitchells and Vivo (which were both meant for theatrical releases from the start and are copyrighted to Sony), K-POP Demon Hunters was always meant for Netflix, and they’re the sole copyright holders. I’d buy it, but I don’t know how likely the film is to get one. It’s a shame, because this movie would’ve been great to see in a theater.

For those who want to watch something similar after watching this, Netflix has an animated series called Jentry Chau vs the Underworld. It's a fantastic watch, probably my favorite animated series of 2024 after Arcane's crash landing of a finale in season 2 (The second season was so good, but the last 1 1/2 episodes did a lot of damage).

I can second the Jentry Chau recommendation, it's well worth watching!

I just wish it had lasted longer, the 13 episodes felt very rushed sadly.

I watched this tonight with my 11 and 16 yoa daughters and we really enjoyed it.

Oddly enough, I had to talk my 11-yoa into watching it even though she's a k-pop fan. Afterwards she said it was okay, but I think she liked it more than she let on. I saw her laughing several times with her sister, and she was familiar with some of the songs. (Apparently not every song in the movie is an original, but I thought the originals were very good.)

Anyway, I thought the movie was great, and I would happily watch it again.

Best animated film of the year so far

I loved it to bits. Cute characters, fun gags, moving story, good acting, fantastic songs. Rewatched it three days later and still loved it. Listened to the soundtrack several times. Probably going to do another rewatch soon. Worth it for the musical numbers alone. Golden and Your Idol are my obsession. And Free. Ok, This is What it Sounds Like and Takedown are great too. The lyrics fit the narrative so well, and the melodies are delightful.

Really hope a physical release comes at some point. I need this with a proper lossless soundtrack.

Bums me out this will likely never get a blu ray, much less a 4k, as the dolby vision stream looked quite good and the movie is fun

I wouldn't rule it out at all. This seems likely to get a release given the mass appeal and significant success it's drawn on the billboards. Gkids or even Mill Creek are potential publishers.

Mill Creek just put out the Kevin Smith Netflix MoU on bluray in a nice steelbook package.
