Moranis was set for the new Honey I Shrunk the Kids sequel with Gadd, so maybe if they're friendly now he would be up to return.

I thought it was pretty obvious that the Disney movies were parodies?

Regarding Spaceballs, though, you can't do it without Moranis.

Dee Bradley Baker took over for Moranis in the animated series. Bill Pullman also did not come back. Only Daphne Zuniga and Joan Rivers of the main cast returned.

20 years ago if the original cast had come back id be all for this.

If Brooks does not have full control this is going to end up as bad if not worse than Coming 2 America.

3/4 of the cast has passed, Moranis is retired he wouldn't even come out of retirement for a cameo for Ghostbusters. Bill Pullman who knows where hes at for this.

In all honesty in todays Politically correct world a Mel Brooks movie in true tone couldn't even be released. Now if they did this and made fun of Political correctness and LGBTQ& Heterosexual themes it might be hilarious, but lets be real the 5% that complains loudest would make everyone think that type of film is pure evil

Gonna go out on a limb and say that Joan Rivers and John Candy won't return.

Well, the cartoon was made before so many of the core cast passed away. Now we’re missing a huge chunk. It would have to be all new characters.

One other thing… Mel Brooks’ last “sequel” was turned in a multi-episode event and dropped on Hulu since Disney owns 20th and well, why release a 20th product wide to everyone via FX or FXX when you can just lock it behind Hulu.

Now this one is Amazon MGM Studios so will this also get locked behind the Prime paywall? Would Amazon want to do a theatrical release for this?

First Beetlejuice 2 finally gets made after years of sequel talks, now this. Now we just need that Goonies sequel to get announced.

Like the first film, no need in a second one. Pass on this one.

I assume you're talking about the FX and FXX cable channels, right? Then I don't want to be rude, but what you're saying doesn't make any sense. Hulu has millions of more subscribers and a bigger reach with audiences than FX and FXX combined. Like, it's not even a close comparison.

Now, if you're talking about the availability of streaming movies/shows in home media, well that's another discussion entirely, I'll give you that.

It's been a long time since Spaceballs first parodied Star Wars, but a sequel to Mel Brooks' sci-fi satire has plenty of new material to work with. In a rereleased episode of Let's Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa, Josh Gad gave updates on the Spaceballs sequel he's developing — a process that included explaining recent Star Wars movies to the 98-year-old Brooks.

When Spaceballs first hit theaters in 1987, Brooks had his comedic sights set on George Lucas' original Star Wars trilogy, which had concluded just a few years earlier. The decades since then have produced eight additional Star Wars movies (comprising a prequel trilogy, a sequel trilogy, and multiple one-offs) and several TV shows. So when Gad pitched Brooks his ideas for a sequel, he had a lot of additional explaining to do.

"Mel is incredibly involved. I'll share a funny story that I haven't yet shared," Gad told Ripa. "When we were pitching him the original conceit for what we wanted to do with the film, at the beginning he goes, 'I'm just telling you now, I want you to really go into detail because I I don't know a lot about the new Star Wars films.' And I said, 'okay.'"

Gad continued, "so I pitch for 40 minutes. It's literally like, I am a combat vet just going to war in front of one person. I'm sweating, I am getting into every line and every beat and every comedic set piece, every reveal. I'm painting all of it and I'm speaking to how this speaks to a certain Star Wars moment, etc. Then there's silence and at the end of it, he goes, 'wow. Josh, it really sounds like you've got your finger on the pulse!' That is the greatest compliment I could have ever gotten, even though there's no context for it for Mel. He really just trusted everything I had to say."

The original characters don't even have to be in it. Just throw a line out about how they are all on an island together pouting and no one knows where they are. Jesus, I should be screenwriter.

I'm skeptical about this/ Love the original, but don't think the spoof genre works in modern times.
