In the meantime I hope we also finally see a 4K release of Dances With Wolves soon.
A lot will depend on what the terms were with WB. They may be obligated to at least give it a minimal theatrical release.

IMO they should treat Chapter 2's theatrical release like a lot of indie films - perhaps a few hundred screens in bigger cities, in particular those that did best for Chapter 1, then do the digital/streaming releases a few weeks later.

DWW is MGM, but if they don't license it to a 3rd party it'll be WB handing any 4K UHD video release for them. I could see that being part of the conversation with any Chapter 2 release strategy.

Down the road when it comes to Chapters 3 & 4 I just don't see WB partnering with him on it. As long as they get made and get UHD releases I'll be happy, but that's obviously no guarantee for them, nor does Chapter 2 have a UHD release guarantee at this point.

Shame he couldn't have found the time to finish his characters arc in "Yellowstone".

Looks like you were/are correct. Sorry to bump, but any word on Part II?

There's no news of a theatrical release date for this movie, let alone one for the disc. More of a wish list thing than anything at this point, what with Costner's legal troubles.

It's getting to the point where no one can be sure this will ever see the light of day, very sad.

10 years from now we will all be talking about “the lost horizon movies”.

Frankly I feel like since 2 is completed we’ll see some version of it someday, somehow. But 3 and 4 I’m pretty sure will just be Hollywood lore story one day.

Pretty weird if you can never watch more than just half of the story.

I've always admired Costner and his dedication to good storytelling but FOUR epic movies is just TOO much.

I suspect the intentional pause between 2 & 3 allows for somewhat of a mid-point conclusion.

However, if it takes 10-15 years I wouldn't doubt Costner finishing 3 & 4. He seems hell bent on making that his final mission in life. He doesn't need money once he's dead, after all.

The first part was supposed to get you excited about watching the whole saga. But even if that worked, after 6 months or whatever wouldn't most people have forgotten about it?

I mean I wasn't in love with the first one, yet I was more or less willing to see what happened next. Except now I barely even remember the first one.

And I've been itching to see Chapter 2 for nearly a year now. Different strokes and all that.

But that really wasn't my point. My point is that Costner sees these films as the capstone to his artistic legacy. He wants them to speak for him when he's gone. Therefore I wouldn't be shocked to see him slum it with paycheck roles and fight and claw to make the 3rd and 4th films even if it takes him years.

Then again, my tastes in films are superior to yours, so there's that, too.

Even if they are 3 hours each, that's a 12-episode TV series. It's hardly too much, but it probably would've done better as a series.

Nah. Mine are better for me, while yours are best for you.

And we're both glad to not be each other.

As a series, I might have watched it. Would have been nice to go along at my own pace.

I am curious if perhaps Costner may have a change of heart and have it resort back to a mini series as I believe initially that there was talk of it being a 12-hour series, but Costner wanted it to be told on the big screen and as movies. If they turned it into a 12-hour series, clearly half the series is finished, if a streaming service such as Netflix, etc. could front some of the costs, they could cut the first film up into three episodes, steam them along with three from Part 2 and allow him to get Parts 3 and 4 finished and his story completed. They could offer up physical 4K and Blu-ray releases for those who would want to purchase it as a four "movie" collection. Wishful thinking on my part I realize....

However, what another person said here probably will be the way he goes, picking up various roles to help finance Parts 3 and 4 himself.
