I need to explain that to you, definitely not what you think Blufans is saving a few cents there. No matter what finish, the production cost won't be any different. In this case, the back finish of Ant-Man 2 is spot glossy, but with only the bodies of the two Ant-Man are matte in which to create a sense of layering, and the rest are still full glossy.

Front of the Steelbook looks fantastic. Will have to wait for this to arrive first, to be able to better judge how the back of the steelbook turned out.

Thanks Kevin, this is a new and useful information, that no matter which finish is used, the cost would be the same (for production).


Yet, I still can't comprehend WHY this choice, to show the bare metal/aluminum behind the final finish (full gloss), on the background. This was not used until the last few years, when EVERYTHING got super-charged (price wise) after/during the pandemic.
I recall those "choices" of using "bare-metal" was used in the beginning of such metal cases (SteelBook or any others), when the case was PLAIN metal and the "artwork" were just printed paper glued on top of those. I've called those "poor-man steelbooks" .










To me, this "choice" using bare metal as the background was in extremely rare cases a good choice, and usually the premiums (as Blufans) were not relying on that empty-of-any-paint regions, instead they constructed the whole image, starting with the canvas (which was not left bare, but most of the times was plain white or black, depending of the final artwork).
And please keep in mind I do know the printing process very well (not to brag or anything).
