Hope he is doing well mate.

I normally start my Halloween month on the 1st, but I can't get to it until the 17th this year, but I will more than make up for it, as I am aiming for 5 films a day.

Always interesting to see what other people are watching, I'll admit that Horror isn't exactly my favourite genre but I do enjoy it sometimes.

I watched Poison for the Fairies from

Unfortunately I did not enjoy this film much at all. I'd picked it up after enjoying the Mexico Macabre release from Indicator as a complete blind buy. I watched the first film of the set and found it boring and devoid of atmosphere. Hopefully it can pick up with the other two, especially the last one, the premise of which sounded the most intriguing to me.

I've not managed to do a horror every October on previous attempts, but will give it an attempt again this year.

1. Goal of the Dead (Dvd). Had it sitting around for years, and it actually turned out to be pretty decent.
2. Carry on Screaming! (Dvd)
3. Macario (Youtube) Loose adaptation of the Soldier and Death folk tale. Well worth seeing.
4. Scooby-Doo and Batman - The Brave and the Bold (DVD)
5. Phantom Call (HK VCD)
6. Sleepaway Camp II (Anchor Bay R1 dvd). Revisiting this one for the first time in years. Valerie Hartman more than makes this worth watching.
7. A Pocket Film of Superstitions
8. Night of the Demons 2 (88films BD)
9. Lost After Dark (Metrodome dvd) Another one I picked up from Poundland ages ago, and had sitting around. This was terrible.
10. Gaming night - Horror Adventure VR. Was passable entertainment until bugs ruined it and I had to give up.
11. Prince of Darkness (Studio Canal BD)
12. Alison's Birthday (Severin BD)
13. Howling III (prism leisure dvd)

Not in the mood for a film tonight, so I've decided to stay with the theme by gaming instead.
Horror Adventure VR and Horror Stories on the PS4, followed by Ghost Hunters on the ZX Spectrum.

After watching Night of the Demons 2 a couple of nights ago, I got curious about Zoe Trilling and decided to look her up, only to find out that she died last year. No details on what happened, it seems to have snuck under the radar. A sad loss, she was only 57.

10. Gaming attempt - my attempt at having a horror gaming evening didn't go too well. Horror Adventure VR turned out to be so bug riddled, I kept endlessly falling through a floor and couldn't progress. Very frustrating. Hopefully it might work when reloaded. Ended up getting frustrated and gave up on the gaming evening plans.

11. Prince of Darkness (Studio Canal BD). Always loved this film. Kind of a cross between The Stone Tape and Assault on Precinct 13. Some clear problems with the image that seem inherent to the film. Really good on the surround sound.
12. Alisons Birthday (Severin BD)
13. Howling III (Prism Leisure DVd)
14. Friday the 13th A New Beginning (Shout BD) This film is a lot better than it gets credit for.
15. Viy 3D. (Italian BD)
16. Tell Tale Heart from the Short Sharp Shocks set. Didn't really have time for a feature. This is a nicely done short, although I generally tend to avoid Poe outside of the Corman films, as adaptations of Poe have been done to death.
17. Dead of Night - A Woman Sobbing.

I'm currently making my way through Ridley Scott's filmography with the intent of finishing before Gladiator II in November and still have The Counsellor onwards to get through so not expecting to complete 31 horror films on top of that but I'll give it a go.

Starting with

Last year was my first go at 31 horror films in a month; I managed 19. This year I'm going to give it another shot. I don't expect to make it all the way to 31 but hopefully I'll improve on last year. As much as possible, I'm aiming for first watches (which will shockingly include all of the Friday the 13ths, almost all of the Child's Plays, and most of the "classic" Halloweens), with a few classics rewatched along the way.

1. Child's Play (original)
A lot more fun than I thought it'd be. Chris Sarandon is so like Mark Ruffalo, it's uncanny.

2. Halloween III: Season of the Witch
Nothing with Tom Atkins is a total bust. And Dan O'Herlihy is having great fun (a real Irish accent!). But the plot nonsensical and, more damningly, the scares are pretty nonexistent. The score was the best thing about it. Disappointing.

One wonders what would have been if Halloween III: Season of the Witch or under another title or production had kept to Nigel Kneale's original story.

I find Halloween III interesting with its story set in the modern day of astrology, the ancient of power of Stonehenge, sacrifice, a toy making corporation hiding malevolent intentions, employing spying surveillance and those cool looking robot henchmen, a look that predates The Matrix by nearly 2 decades.

Anyway, it is all a personal choice of what we like or don't like.

As Conal Cochran would say - And......Happy Halloween.

I don't disagree. The whole ancient power meets technology aspect is brushed over far too quickly. And I'd love to see what Joe Dante could have done with it

Tetsuo: The Iron Man was everything I hoped it would be. A short, sharp, shock of a film. Far more inventive than I realised it would be, and although it clearly wears a number of influences on its sleeves, still very much has an identity of its own. I understand some find the soundtrack harsh; I kept turning the volume up to appreciate it more. An essential body horror.

Random thought I had halfway through - did Aronofsky watch this before making Pi: The Movie?

1.

Watched it 2 1/2 times on Tuesday evening One time back to back, and the third time I started with a German audio commentary but it was crap, so I turned it off. I only ever had a DVD, so this BD upgrade is great. Probably my third favorite Frankenstein after the Bride of Frank and the other Universal OG.

2.

My fourth favorite Frank. Terence Fisher was a genius.

3.

My lady never watched this. I'll probably watch this again till the end of the year. So much comfort this movie gives me.

4.

Very atmospheric, bourgeois vampires, that tends to be very traditional and a lot dreamy with nudity. Enjoyed it immensely.
