screen tearing happens on 4 systems (ps2/ps3 & xbox1/360) i played though god of war 2 and OMG it was loaded with screen tearing, it basically comes down to whom even developes/produces the game and wheather or not they did a good job making the game run well on the systems. you usually do not see screen tearing on exclusive games like drakes uncharted or halo 3.

Has nothing to do with your tv. The reason you're seeing it more than some other people is.. they're less sensitive to it. Developers seem to realise this so they favour tearing over more frequent/noticeable framerate drops which more gamers are sensitive to. Both of these games have tearing. |

People have different opinions about what is tolerable or not when it comes to screen tearing. AFAIK, the only console game that allows you to toggle vsync on or off is Bioshock on 360. By default with vsync on, the game is locked at 30fps so you don't see any tearing. If you turn it off however, the framerate is unlocked, allowing the game to run "smoother", at the price of adding some noticeable tearing when the framerate fluctuates.

I don't have Armored Core and Transformers, but I have the rest you mentioned. I agree with your statement and I have a 70" TV (which would make tearing even more noticeable).

The problem with noticing screen tearing, is that once you notice it once, you'll have a keen eye for it forevermore and it will drive you insane, haha.
For a while, I thought something was wrong with my ps3, but I did my research and found out it was common. Two games I have that are horrendous with screen tearing: Assassin's Creed and Uncharted.... ok, uncharted isn't THAT bad, unless you like to turn the camera a lot in the jungle like I do, haha. I really hope developers get their butts in gear and learn how to use the CELL so we don't have to put up with this anymore- we already can see it with games like DMC4- that game is beautiful, and I haven't noticed any tearing at all (although I've been trying to not look for it, heh). Bottom line- if you haven't noticed any tearing, DON'T look for it.... it will drive you insane. |

its real bad on my uncharted and timeshift and some titles that i own which are ok are soldier of fortune, ratatouille, motorstorm and stuntman although stuntman has a little. Its just because the developers arnt turning v sync on if its turned on you wont get it if its off youll get tearing.I emailed makers of motorstorm and also insomniac who make ratchet and resistance all those 3 games dont have it and both makers of those games emailed me to say they have v sync turned on.Also insomniac said they make sure they do a good job of optimising there games so obviously this thing can be avoided if the games are made properly which alot arnt.

Noticed it a lot in Uncharted, especially at the beginning. Didn't happen so much later in the game but I also didn't turn side to side as much either.

Sounds very much like V-sync issues I used to have on my old PC games all the time. Must be TV related? I do not notice it on my PS3 (but hey, I only have two games so far!). Sorry, cannot think of a decent suggestion to fix it unless your TV has v-sync options/settings.

I think page tearing has a lot to do with the TV set. It's not so much a visual sensitivity issue like the screen door effect with LCDs or the rainbow effect some people see in DLPs. It's more of a refresh rate and vertical sync issue than anything else.
I have 26 PS3 games or so, including Heavenly Sword, Uncharted, and Transformers, and I haven't encountered page tearing on my KDS-50A2000 digital rear projector. |
