It's not a great film, but I'm more down for "bad gorillas" than action stuff like Navy Seals. This will be my fifth VSU, basically making it so every other announcement is one I'm down for getting with the deluxe packaging.

All I remember about this abysmal movie from the time I wasted money going to see it in theaters opening weekend was somebody jumping out of a plane with an obviously fake monkey strapped to them. The theater erupted in laughter when that silliness happened.

Loved this film as a kid and it’s a guilty pleasure of mine but I’m not sure if I need the big box. I’ll see how the 10k units move and take things from there.

OMG this is the best news! I don't know what most of you have been smoking, but Congo is my ultimate guilty pleasure movie. My story isn't as dramatic/hilarious as the previous poster who was told he had a terminal disease at age 9 though.

1995 was the year I really got into movies and the industry as a whole. I was a 14-15 years old and was already a subscriber to Entertainment Weekly and Premiere magazines. I remember going to the library and reading their issues of Variety and The Hollywood Reporter. Even as a barely pubescent teen, I knew who movers & shakers like Sherry Lansing and Michael Ovitz were. I watched movie trailers on Quicktime. I avidly kept up with what was #1 at the box office. I even had an HSX account when it first launched in 1996.

Up to this point, I could count on one hand the number of movies I had seen in a theatre. But with semi-independence and my salary from my part-time jobs, I could freely watch movies now. I remember being enraptured by the Congo trailer with the creepy gray gorillas and treasure seekers trekking through the jungle. It began a life long love of Laura Linney as a performer that remains to this day. I am thrilled that 30 years later, her career is still going strong.

I'm Canadian and I'm sure I'll be paying through the nose to get this 4K edition but screw it, I'm in. The specs also look great with a new scan from the 35mm original, Dolby Vision and even a commentary track!

On a curiously ironic note, this release comes as rather heartening news to me. Charles, the silverback gorilla at my local zoo just died a few days ago at the very ripe age of 52 (they typically only live 30-40 years in the wild), which greatly saddened me and many others. Charles had been with the zoo literally since its inception in 1972 and even did some paintings back in the day, similar to Amy the gorilla in the movie.

It's cheesy as hell, but that's what i like about it. I might be in for a standard release if it hits $25 or less on deepdiscount in the future.

Nice!

Is this considered a release a la Gorgo and Reptilicus or just a random 4k they acquired?

Absolutely terrible film that happens to have some wonderful performances in it. I'll wait for a standard edition on this one. Thanks VS.

He originally auditioned for the Dylan Walsh part.

I did not know that. Dylan Walsh seemed to be one of Paramount's go-to character actors during that period.

Very excited for this, I watched the VHS multiple times over the Christmas '95 holiday so its inextricably linked to the season for me. Jamming Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness and (What's the Story) Morning Glory between viewings...good times man.

Also Pursuit, his directorial debut, which is a TV-film adaption of his novel Binary. Though the novel was written under his pseudonym John Lange.
