Default Only If The Original Versions Were Remastered

I would buy them ONLY if the original theatrical versions were completely remastered and cleaned up, obliterating those crappy non-anamorphic laserdisc masters once and for all!

I have never cared for the special editions and even though I have them on dvd I rarely watch them. Blu-ray would be a great way to finally give the original theatrical versions the treatment they deserve. Lucas has said "never" so many times before but then has changed his mind. You never can count on what Lucasfilm says.

So here's to hoping!

Keep in mine they will use Blu to sell SW, not SW to sell Blu
Sort of makes you wonder what Lucas was thinking when he released them on laserdisk doesn't it?

The only 2 things about the special editions I hate are 1.) Greedo shooting first and 2.) The new music scene in Jabba's palace. If Lucas would fix those 2 scenes and then fix all the lightsaber effects to be consistent throughout the entire saga, I would be completely happy with it.

In this case "eventually" is the right word for it.

All the films are in digital form now so there is no need to clean/restore from film.

The real question is which versions will be included and is he really done "fixing" ep. 4-6

Yes, I will take a copy, even though I have bought it on every format so far, VHS, VHS Special Edition, Laser Disc, Laser Disc Special Edition, VCD, and DVD.

I don't see why they can't put them out on Blu-ray now, as for I just watched Episode III yesterday on HBOHD and it looked marvelous.

Lucas should release a box set of all the films for the Holidays. I'm sure it would sell players and make me very happy. How about New Line release LOTR Extended Cuts in the same time.

the longer he waits the more money he makes off of them because by the time he starts making them on blu-ray probably everyone will have a blu-ray player

I hope *when* it does come out on Blu. it will be that Special Box set with all the never before released "Deleted Stuff" from all the films. and it would be cool if they added the Internet Shorts "Pink 5 Trilogy" as a Blu-Ray Only Extra!!

I would guess he will first make Hi-Def Blu Verson's of the "Indy Films" + the New one from this year. and see how well that sells. so lets make sure too buy the "Indy Films".

I said 'no', because 'eventually' could be anything from next week to ten years.

I agree.

I remember a while back when the newer films were being released, George Lucas was talking about High Def. It showed him behind the scenes as he was directing Episode I and was watching the scene playback on HD LCDs in High Def with the special effects on. He said that the problem he'll have to deal with in High Def when its time to release his movies on the next technology is the make-up. He went on to say they had to put darker make-up on the actors to make them look tan as if they had been living on the desert planet for some time. The make-up flaws really showed up on HD.

So obviously Lucas was already thinking about the next gen format at the time since he was already viewing his movies being played back in HD off the video equipment he was shooting with.

I think if we are lucky we might get Star Wars at Christmas, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Most likely Lucas will wait until the format is more mature and in more people's homes before he releases his films on Blu-ray. Who knows, maybe the older Lucas will get pushed from all the right people into releasing them sooner.

I'm never buying Star Wars. I don't even have the standard DVD's. I'm hesitant to buy greedy George's movies because it only encourages him more to double-dip on his most ardent fans. He's a lazy film-maker, and as a poster above me said he'll milk the Star Wars franchise to death.

If there is any release ever that I would stand in line for on the first day, it would be the orginal 3 on BD. Although, I agree, it will take a long time to get there.

It would a grand event. I watched Empire on HBO HD not to very long ago and it looked great. I wonder what the source was?

There was plan for a 12 DVD boxset to be release for the 3oth anniversary, but that was canned for some reason. I'm pretty sure GL will wait a while, the original triology would need a complete new scan to be done on Blu-ray right now. the new triology would pretty much be ready doh.

Will he release TOS as we saw them in the 70's and 80's?..i seriously doubt it, the only reason he release a DVD version of the LaserDisc was to please a portion of the fan. I, myself, like the SE better, but that's my personnal opinion, Lucas as said manytime that he himself like the SE much better, so i think we'll see the SE in blueray, but not the TOS.

I don't think we'll see any SW movies in Blu-ray withing 3 to 5 years realy if the DVD release is any indication. But when he does release them...BAM, it will kick ass. Lucas as the best EXTRAs you can find on DVDs.
