Remember everyone - there is still a format war going on - and now it isn't Blu-Ray vs. HDDVD, it's Blu-Ray versus Standard DVD. That is where the money is and that is the fight that has to be won. In order to do so, you need movies for $15-20 and players for $100-150. PERIOD.

Default Elmer J. FUDder, Millionaire.

Got to say, it's sounds nice to hear FUDders conceding defeat, but it's a nice surprise to hear them doing it with a modicum of class. I, for one, applaud him and also echo the sentiment that we should all now get back to the enjoyment of this blossoming new technology...

Excelsior!!!

His thread was locked a few mins. ago ... his post is drifting off their 1st page into oblivion ... a fitting end to the uber-shill. Now, I wonder how long it will take for his FUD-filled websites to be realigned???

That was a really pathetic thread and post. I really lost all respect for AVS over the last two years. As a "supposedly unbiased audio video forum" they were completely biased toward HD-DVD.

Hopefully, they can accept Blu-ray, move on, and gain some of their former credibility back.

Favorite Lines in bold.... Still pretty damned gracious coming from rdjam.

"rdjam - Why it's time to support Blu-Ray "

As I write this post, an email is winging it's way to all 9,000 HD-NOW supporters who have been petitioning together for the HD DVD format. We've all put up a good fight over the last year or two for the HD DVD format. Certainly, the "war" was not a foregone conclusion. We saw how close HD DVD came to "winning" the struggle, with Fox reported to be about to defect to HD DVD, along with Warner, until some last minute negotiating was undertaken by the BD folks.

To Blu-Ray (look, I even spelled it right!) I say: Congratulations. Respect is due.

To HD DVD I say: You will always be my friend and I will continue to cherish all the superb films I own in the format. I will keep my HD DVD movies and players, which are absolutely the equal of any future Blu-Ray versions, and I will look out for a wonderful dual-format HD/BD player this year, to ease my transition to making loads of Blu-Ray purchases. I'm not sorry for the choices I made, as I have gotten superb enjoyment for my investment, and will continue to do so.
Around the New Year, I stated that I would support whichever format Warner chose. I meant that statement. Some BD supporters have been a bit impatient, but one has to remember that with some 9,000 supporters counting on you, it would not be right to throw in the towel before Toshiba made it official.

To everyone on AVS and the other forums on which we have all waged our debates: It's time to put all the past behind us, as well as any personal grudges, and move on for the benefit of HDM, with mutual respect and encouragement.

Does this mean that I will suddenly start gushing unlimited praise for the Bluray format despite some still-apparent flaws? No.
With HD DVD offically retired, Blu-Ray is now the official and one-and-only High Definition disc format. There can be no room in my heart for bitterness or any other negative emotions.

At the same time, those who have been "committed" Blu-Ray supporters must realize that any criticism of the BD format is NOT a format war attack, or an attack based on bitterness. There is no format war... HD DVD is dead.

But Blu-Ray still has issues to resolve, issues that we will ALL be happy to see in the past. These include things like a fractured player profile. It's time to eliminate the three "standards" and truly standardise the BD format around the BD 2.0 ("BD-Live") profile, so that consumers can confidently make their purchase wihout the fear of being left behind and not getting to use all content on Bluray discs.

In the same vein, BD player prices must come down - and not for the obsolete BD 1.0 players, but for up to date and viable designs. And I urge the BD camp not to start letting the prices of movie discs start climbing back up now that there is no competition. We've seen what can be achieved - prove to us that you have our interests, and the mass market, at heart with your pricing. Show us that the right format won.
And so I hope that the more intense BD supporters will be able to relax and lose their defensiveness now that the war is officially over - (Our defensiveness?) in the same way that I urge all HD DVD supporters to start to look ahead and consider adding Blu-Ray purchases to their libraries. Dual-Format players should be encouraged, as they will help many people make the transition - as will cheap BD 2.0 players. (Again with the cheap...) Save the expensive models for real additional features, such as DVD-A and SACD playback, network media player playback of DVR'd HD movie files, DTS MA 7.1 decoding, etc etc etc.
In parting, let me say that I look forward to AVS "healing" and to a return to the days when we were ALL simply here to further the enhoyment and discussion of fantastic Audio Visual joy!

God speed, everyone!"

Maybe we wont get banned for telling the truth on the AVS anymore.

Not so dumb after all.

Kage99.
I say this because the red ants claimed that Paramount was not paid any money to go red, which means they would have been dumb to go against. The fact they did get paid is not the point. It just shows that paramount cares more about money than the general populace.

Was there a backroom deal with Warner? I haven't heard about it. It seems to me that almost double the sales would be deal enough for Warner to go Blu. Why the untrue statements? Or ARE they untrue? I have no idea. But it seems to me that it's a double standard by complaining about this when there was a well-publicized Paramount payoff by the HD-DVD clan.

If there's no amount publicized...I'd be highly suspicious of rumors of a payoff.

I have to second this. AVS really lost it over the last 2 years. They were anything but neutral. I would even call them hostile to BD supporters. Reap what you sow AVS. I'm sure they lost a lot of members.

Well I guess that he has accepted the fact the Hd DVD lost. Although he could have sounded a little less like a cry baby.

There is a difference apparently in your definition of the word "respectful" and my definition of said word.

Being respectful and still spreading stupidity and FUD are two different things.

Saying that FOX was just about to switch is {has been and will always be} stupid HD-DVD fanboy hopeful thinking and stupidity.

If he wants respect, he'll have to do one hell of alot better than that.
