Fine.

It's embarrassing that a $600 piece of equipment can't do this when any old crappy DVD player from freaking Wal-Mart has no problems with it.
Different machine with different implementation mechanism/instructions. I'm not embarrassed about my PS3 at all.

As for upconverting DVD's, that's not necessary because I have a standalone Pioneer unit that does that AND can output audio to HDMI and optical at the same time......imagine that, what a novel concept.
HDMI and optical at the same time? What's the model? Oh wait, it didn't have to do any lossless audio.

The PS3 probably does audio via software decoding. That Pioneer did it via hardware decoding. That is probably the diference.

Sony rep says this is due to "hardware limitations". Which says to me that they either knowingly or unknowingly overlooked the fact that the vast majority of people out there do NOT have HDMI-capable receivers.

Either way, Sony screwed up. It has nothing to do with "software decoding" or anything else of that nature. They just plain old screwed up.

As much as I love my PS3 - I have to agree on this point. Seemed like a no brainer.

However, like I said, I use my PS3 every single day for music, movies or games and downloadables, that this one annoyance can be over-looked. I have never gotten more use out of a piece of electronic equipment besides my computer.

Great little machine. Even though I paid $600 for the 60 gig, I still feel I got my money's worth.

When I got my 60 gig there was no, upconversion to 1080p for DVDs, or 24fps, or wallpapers, or themes, or upsampling for music, profile 1.1 and profile 2.0 compatible - it's the gift that keeps on giving. If they manage to fix this little issue, I will be very happy - if not, I can live with it.
