Yeah, I only ripped the disc later after I'd posted - just wanted to check it wasn't a player/TV issue.
My working theory is that someone did some automated colour correction to boost highlights for a specific shot (there's green lighting in some of the party scenes) and just accidentally applied it to the whole film. Hopefully we'll see some shots from the Deaf Crocodile set soon and find out if it's a problem with the restoration or a tweak that Eureka did. |

I wonder if this has something to do with a 'safe colours' filter, or someone messing about with the colour settings trying to fix something and causing a different problem.
All the areas where this green appears - Are they parts of the image that look as if they might be bright highlights in the image? I seem to recall from my video production days that applying a routine Safe Colours filter without taking time to check things and do things manually instead could often result in peculiar colour anomalies along these lines. Although I think they were usually of a yellowish tinge. I might be wrong, it was a long time ago and memory is a bit sketchy about it now. |

So does this type of ‘artifacting’ not have a name? I ask because I can’t see that anyone has identified it by a noun yet, but am very curious re: the issue in general because a) I reported finding the exact same thing in the Return of the King imax with laser DCP over a year ago (see penultimate para - and ftr no one ever responded to it so the question has remained unanswered) and b) more recently noticed it pretty much every where during a regular DCP watch of 2OO1 a few weeks ago - which was very distracting - and had been intending to make a post in one of the 2OO1 threads to again ask if any of the disc versions are subject to this(eta - and ask again what it actually is/is called), but being a total non-expert in all these technical things I didnt then and still don’t know what to call it/label it as
[Show spoiler] but I find it curious that I(again, total non-expert/definitely not a videophile)’ve noticed it on two watches of DCPs and yet it’s not (yet, at least) been identified by a specific name ITT - whereas I would have thought there’d be a name for it if it’s as noticeable and distracting, if uncommon, as some of us that have encountered it find it to be

Unfortunately I expect its highly unlikely that Eureka will fix this, based on past things like Bride with White Hair and the Boris Karloff set.
I was really interested in this set, but can't justify buying it if it has this problem. |

What happened with those? I know the initial LE of BRIDE had a subtitle issue that was quietly corrected with the standard release, ditto MOTHRA. I don't recall any problems with the Karloff releases.

One of the films in the Karloff set doesn't play on some BD players for some reason.

Ok yeah on a closer watch there are definitely things going on with this movie that shouldn't be there. Look at this AI-enhanced face in the background in one of the final scenes
But so far this is the weakest movie out of 3 and I doubt I'd ever watch it again anyway. I'm watching the last one tonight. Might keep an eye for more things like this, might not. BTW This is a photo taken of the projection on my wall, so if you find any other weird artifacts, those are just cracks in the wall painted over and bubbled up a bit. |

I bought this set with the CCC Krimi box so it should get to me soon, I'll have to wait until I see it on my screen to know wether I'm really bothered by the issue or not, I find it hard to believe that other reviewers went through the same disc without mentioning anything if it's so glaring.
And if I find the PQ too poor once I finally see it I'll keep my set and just complete it with the french disc from Artus, either way, not a deal breaker for me |

Argh! Why do they use AI for film restoration? We managed well enough without it before.

Archived my set but hadn't watched any of them yet. Scrubbed through Dust and yeah, there's definitely something fishy going on.

Sorry if this is clunky, trying to figure out how to attach screens.
