If this set includes the original German theatrical version, it will be the international version but with eight cuts for violence.

HippieDalek I think this is your work, yes?

If so you deserve all the credit. As someone who also creates, you did an an incredible job. In some alternate universe this fanedit gets a proper release.

Thanks! I hope you enjoyed it! I can hope that one day my humble edit will follow the likes of the Waterworld Ulysses Cut or the Dune Spicediver edit and get an official release...but I'm not holding my breath

I'm not as active in the fan preservation/edit community as I was, hoping to get back into it at some point...but I've managed to keep myself busy with other Highlander stuff lately

From the trailer, I can tell your cuts are nuanced and really land.

Like you, I'm not closely connected to the fan preservation community, so I was surprised when Koch released the 'Dune: Spicediver' edit on Blu-ray. I immediately purchased the complete boxset.

Seeing this precedent, I don't see why your "Highlander 2: Rebuild" couldn't be released as a Blu-ray bonus through a distributor like Koch or Arrow.

I work in commercials and music videos but have a silly pipe dream of running a specialty label like Tarantino's former Rolling Thunder Pictures, releasing lost films and alternative versions despite the licensing challenges. Radiance Films is doing something similar, releasing previously unreleased and criminally overlooked films. For example they are releasing "Themroc" - an obscure French film I previously only had on VHS bootleg.

This curation could keep physical media viable by creating releases fans truly invest in. It's passionate creators like you who keep overlooked gems like Highlander 2 relevant despite their flaws.

It's an incredible box set! I got the most recent release of it a few months back when it suddenly got a huge mark down on Amazon DE. The upgrade in quality on the Spicediver Edit is huge compared to the old SD copy I had from ages ago.

I've always wished Plaion (Koch) had H2 in Germany; they seem so willing to work with fan communities to make their cult releases the best they can be. When they released Fortress they reached out to the laserdisc communities so they could include the censored shots, and I know for a fact they spent about a year hunting for a 35mm print of the International Cut of The Prophecy for their recent 4K Blu before they had to give in and resort to laserdisc again. And they clearly have a great relationship with Spicediver. Plaion really care.

Sadly the German rights for H2 are with Leonine and well...we've seen what they're doing.

Fingers crossed Arrow will get to handle H2 some day; that would be the dream!

Yeah I've been really impressed with Radiance. I believe the person who set it up used to work for Arrow before setting out on their own; they've done a great job!

Disappointing news about this release albeit not surprising at the same time. Kind of what one would expect from a movie with such a troubled production history. I hope we get to see this given its proper due at some point, it would be a gargantuan project by anyone who would take it on and hopefully without taking some shortcuts.

A little more information on Amazon.de now:

Quote:
Christopher Lambert und Sean Connery – die Kultstars der 90er in der neu synchronisierten Fassung!
Highlander 2

Connor MacLeod gegen General Katana – der letzte Kampf um die Zukunft der Menschheit.
Highlander 2

Limitierte Special Edition mit Mediabook, Original-Kinofassung und 40-seitigem Booklet.
Highlander 2

Connor MacLeod vs. General Katana – the final battle for the future of humanity.

Limited Special Edition with media book, original theatrical version, and 40-page booklet.

Five bonus features with making-of, deleted scenes, and exclusive behind-the-scenes insights.

Note: The image quality of the "Special Edition" varies considerably, as no alternative high-quality recordings were available for many scenes. The transition between high definition and upscaled standard definition is clearly visible, as are image defects such as moiré effects or freeze frames.
At least they are being honest about the state of the Special Edition in that last paragraph!

At least it's back in print, with all the special features too. The Olive and Japanese Blu Ray releases dropped all the special features from the original US Blu Ray, as well as dropping the surround mix.

Unless they do something special with the International Cut DVD then it's still not a definitive release, but once it comes out it will probably still be the best release available for those who don't have the original Blu.

I've still not been able to get any firm details on this one yet, but I just noticed that Amazon DE and JPC are now both listing the release date as the 30th May instead of 16th.

OFDb have uploaded details of this release, including the back cover. Sadly it confirms that the DVD of the International Cut is still German only.

https://www.ofdb.de/fassung/2492,506...R%C3%BCckkehr/

From the sound of customer reviews the International Cut is still censored, so it's probably the exact same DVD as the old Concorde release. On the flip side, German fans seem thrilled with the new German dub of the Special Edition, so I'm happy that the release isn't a total washout. And like I said earlier, it's great to have a version of the Blu Ray with all the special features and 7.1 English audio back in print again!

I really hope that some day we get a better source for the English International Cut audio than my old beat up Hong Kong laserdisc.
