Kino is a disc distribution company, not mechanics.

Agreed. Love how he basically reprises his role as Danny from Withnail & I here in this film.

Is it blasphemous to say I prefer the second one?

The first definitely has the bigger cultural moments, but the weird, random humour in the second is much more my style.

I think the second one feels more like a Mike Myers movie.

I managed to subdue the tiger with a can of mace.. but the shopkeeper and his son.. that was another matter altogether… I had to beat them to death with their own shoes.

I also prefer the second one. I love how surreal and unrestrained it is. I also love that Ralph Brown is just playing his character from Withnail and I all over again.

Kino rarely deliver outright awfulness, it's mediocrity that's their speciality. But Paramount's b-team? Hoo boy. Makes Kino's authoring house look like world beaters.

I need a full explanation on this “issue” during the Batman parody with the pole sliding. I’ve always heard a distinct guitar rendition of the Neal Hefti Batman theme from the VHS, TV airings, DVD and Blu-ray. It’s definitely not a Stairway to Heaven situation.

The crazy thing is I never heard of Withnail and I when I saw the movie.
Cut to a month or two after seeing Wayne's World 2, a guy working at the video store (remember those things?) recommended Withnail and I.
I was like "Whaaaaa? That dude is JUST like that guy from Wayne's World!"

And coincidentally Withnail and I and Wayne's World 2 are both coming to 4K in the US on May 20th

The filmmakers secured the license to use the original for the theatrical release. Since home video at the time was not as collector friendly as now, they did not include non theatrical releases in the contract. So to keep the joke, they used a sound alike replacement. Unlike Stairway’s problem, no one went after them for this so it remains.

I still find this to be a fallacy. The song credits just acknowledge the title and the composer. If it was “the original,” there would be indication of the “courtesy” and “arrangement.”
