...to the surprise of nobody, given they're owned by Toho.

I mean, Criterion or Toho themselves were strong candidates, but I'm glad to see Toho utilizing Gkids for their own films. I wonder if Toho's US home video branch is done now (besides maybe the occasional Godzilla.com exclusive).

This shouldn't be difficult to slap together quickly. Add a couple of audio tracks and maybe an extra or two to the existing 4k and voila.

Can't they release all Godzilla movies together, I don't even know how many there are by now.

30 Toho-produced live action films 31st in development
5 Hollywood films (1 Tristar 4 Legendary) 6th in development
3 Polygon animated films
3 animated shows, 1 Hollywood show, bunch of shorts, various video, television, and webisode projects.

Even though Janus has their hands on the first 28 Toho films, releasing a complete set would be almost as expensive as that CC40 set. Build your own set instead.

Criterion did the Showa-Era collection and that was 15 films?
So can't they release a 2nd box set for the Heisei era

I feel like we might get some further releases akin to the Japan Edition of Minus One that are Toho direct, would not be surprised if the B&W version of this one also might go that route. I’m just hoping since Gkids is best known for animated releases, that we finally get the Netflix stuff on disc now.

I was thinking subtitled versions of discs already released in Japan, like the Fes Godzilla Collection or season 1 of Godziban. Stuff that may not have enough market appeal to warrant a wide release by Gkids, but is still demanded by US fans.

Hoping for a 4-disc LE in a box - 4K, BD, bonus BD, and Orthochromatic.
Standard edition can just be 2 disc.

They could if you're okay waiting another five years or so.

Can't wait! Probably fair to assume a Q4 release for home video?

Gkids says "a home entertainment release will follow later this year".

I don't see a Fathom Events logo, would be nice if this got the same roll out as the Minus One anniversary showing cause my nearest theater might actually show it then.

Since its gkids, will Shout most likely be doing the 4K disc?

I suspect it will be more like the Princess Mononoke IMAX/4K theatrical re-release, this is being distributed by GKIDS and not Toho International

Yeah, I figured that. Sometimes my local theater does Gkids films, but not always.
They haven't posted this weekend's schedule yet. Guess I'll find out if they're showing DanDaDan. If so then maybe there's a chance.
Edit: No DanDaDan. Hope fading.

Liking the purple-heavy advertisements ngl. Also noticed they're promoting it with "restored text cards".

Yeah it's funny that's a selling point, but a lot of people were wondering about those. It's too bad that there is no mention of the dub or Orthochromatic yet.

Gkids might be my distributor of the year. Wolf Children and now Shin Godzilla! Only release left I want more than life itself Dune with IMAX AR.

This is the first I'm learning about anyone messing with the text cards. They are the best part of the film.

I keep hoping for a Hesei/Millenium set from Janus. Looks like they have some rights, but not all?
