Eureka and I think they have free shipping (or they did). Always try and go with who put the work into it if possible .

Would've been nice if this was announced before I finally ordered the Cohen Media Blu-ray. Oh well. I might pick this up down the road, just to have a copy on both formats. Will it really be much of an upgrade? The German UHD is a major step down from the Blu-ray IMO, based on screencaps.

Also, I don't mind the cover art too much, even if I do prefer the theatrical artwork. The Cohen Media release has a worse cover (I'm no fan of their obnoxious template with the giant C).

Universal Horror (1998)
Yes, this is where I first heard about this movie, and got interested in Universal Horror (and really all early horror cinema) as a whole. I saw it on Chiller around Halloween when I was like 13. I still enjoy watching it, especially since it has a lot of interviews with people no longer with us.

The kind of slipcover art that makes me want to wait for the standard without it.

I'd wait and see about US retailers; I don't imagine this one will sell lightning fast and it might be a little cheaper ordering non-direct
I've actually ended up paying a bit LESS ordering direct (shipped to the US), particularly on some of the 2 disc or boxed sets. Perhaps the tariff situation will change that on some of the US/UK dual releases now?

I'll be the odd one out and say I don't mind the new art. It'll have the original in the reverse case art, so I don't get the issue anyway.

Flog the slipcover later on when it's OOP! Plenty of nutters lovely collectors here go mad for rare cardboard.

If I’m not mistaken, hasn’t every Eureka UHD been handled by FIM?

I believe so. Still good to have confirmation as we never know with labels who don’t hire FiM for all releases if the situation changes.

Atomic has this up for pre-order now. Orbit as well.

It does seem to be around $31 at Atomic and about $33 directly from Eureka. Diabolik is $40, due to the $6 shipping charge. Orbit is $35. This is all just for this release alone when buying. I may go with Atomic.

I put in my pre-order with Atomic. I had nearly $6 in Shop cash to spend and it just about covered the shipping and some of the tax.

Does Eureka normally produce standard editions of their 4K Limited Editions if/when the LE sells out? Looks like the disk content of the 4K is almost the same as the BD, so this is a case where I'd love to see reviews of the picture quality before deciding what to purchase. But can't do that with a pre-order.

Then again 2000 copies of a 1932 horror film that had an almost identical BD release 7 years ago might not sell out all that quickly.

Yes, Eureka does put standard editions out after their LEs go OOP.

The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari got its 4K LE release back in December of 2022. It only had 3,000 copies made. It went OOP in August of 2023. The standard got a release in November of 2023.

I could imagine if Svengoolie showed it again, it'd probably bump up the interest in this. Back when he showed The Uninvited back in 2023, its Criterion blu-ray got a huge bump in sales on Amazon.

I hope this sells well, despite the slipcover art.

One of my top ten favorite movies. This will be the sixth time I buy(Laserdisc, DVD, Cohen BD, Eureka BD, the German 4k). This was such a hard movie to see in the seventies and eighties. Now we have near pristine copies. Now we need to see the WHITE ZOMBIE restoration on BD/4k.

It would be a nice dream to have the 1932 WHITE ZOMBIE really restored from gathering all the best elements. I hope it happens.

Definitely. No upscaling certain sections, DNR blasting or watermarking. Just scanning the best available elements, restoring sympathetically and having a full version in the best possible quality.

We can dream, no one seems to be bothered about it.

I think there was a UCLA restoration of WZ a few years ago and there have been rumors it would be released on Blu. I hope there’s an announcement soon.

On "White Zombie" 1932

There was one under Scott McQueen @ UCLA, and it has been screened a few times, but no release of any kind that I know. I have not seen it, but I know 3 people who have, but none were able to compare it to anything else.

It would be nice to take this restoration and perhaps combine the best with any other pieces (that are possibly outside of this restoration).
