I love the PS3 Remote, best PS3 purchase to date. That remote is a million times better than having to use the six-axis to fumble around playing blu-rays. It is one extra remote to have around though, but I don't mind when it works so well. Last edited by AlienHeadBoy; 02-25-2008 at 02:11 AM. |

can the PSP be configured to fully control the PS3? i have used to take over the PS3 and it works fine. So, could it be configured to act as a remote?

I bought my remote last June and have had the same batteries, the ones that came with it, in it since then. I was actually just thinking about how amazed I was about that the other day.

Yeah, it is pretty slick and it's nice with the recharger. Like I said before, great when you watch movies completely bathed in inky darkness, which is precisely why I bought mine.

Look at the PS3 bluetooth remote and the number of buttons that are not available on the Nyko. |

I'm trying to contact Marantz to see if the RC9001 is capable of controlling the PS3 with no additional IR etc... since both units are WIFI capable. I'll let you know if they get back to me. I have a credit with Amazon (thanks to the coinstar thing) and this is on the list, if it will in fact do what it claims...... but we'll see, there seems to be doubts regarding network firewall, etc.

I'd just like to express my outrage at Sony for using the Bluetooth logo on the remote. As a standard, that logo is supposed to indicate interaperability and conformance to open standards.
From what I can tell, it does not support AVRCP (Audio Video Remote Control Profile). Strangely, even though GlovePIE and others say they have support for it (GlovePIE is an input program that let's you use things like Wii Remotes on PC), my laptop can't see it at all when I put it in pairing mode and it has no indicator to indicate that it is in pairing mode (causing me to wast hours trying). Pairing an AVRCP device to a PS3 via an A2DP (Advanced Audio Distribution Profile AKA "Stereo Bluetooth") headset that includes it does NOTHING when you use the AVRCP functions (Next/Previous Track, Fast Forward/Rewind, Play/Pause, etc) leading me to believe that Sony deliberately left that functionality out to sell more proprietary Blu-Ray Remotes. The AVRCP profile allows for proprietary functions in addition to the standard ones, so Sony could've easily added the SIXAXIS buttons (L/1, 2, & 3, Circle, Square, X, Triange, PS button, etc) along with any other BD function that wasn't specified in the more advanced versions of the profile. Heck, some of the more advanced profiles supports displays and can send media information to the device! That's really useful if you use your PS3 as a media player because it can display Track information and allow you to browse from another room, but I wonder if they can send subtitles so my friends won't have to complain... We'd have universal AVRCP Bluetooth/IR remotes if only Sony would allow it. They absolutely should not be using the Bluetooth logo on theirs, as it is no longer an indicator of conformance/interoperbility. |

So you ask me "Lucy...you HAVE a PS3 remote...why the hell buy the BluWave IR remote too???"
Catch some air off THIS shit. The Nyco IR BluWave remote in and of itself is a pretty lame remote which is all but incapable of controlling dick without FULL ON pointing it Directly at the IR receiver....BUT....HOWEVER!!!! When you dump all of it's functions to your universal learning remote, that all changes. In my case, it is the MX-500 Home Theater Master Learning Remote and the IR range is now completely sick. (This was a problem for me because my PS3 is now on the very bottom of my Theater rig and the signal now has to travel around an object in the way.) So when you use YOUR remote...it will be better. Having said that: The CON ![]() You cannot turn the PS3 on or off with the IR remote. (once you get to the power off menu, the arrow keys no longer work) I have no idea what is so special about the PS3 button itself, but it is not represented here at all. Once you turn the PS3 on though, you can do anything except zoom into pictures (like you can with the Analog sticks), and utilize the color code keys. Other then that, if you just want to use your favorite learning remote (once your PS3 is already on) you are now set and the option for that is now available. So that is pretty much that. I hope that helps you guys out. Bring the rock and enjoy, |

I must be the only one who hates universal remotes and actually enjoys having the remote from each piece of equipment. As someone else said, you have to get up to put the game/movie in or take the game/movie out. At that time it's pretty easy to hit the power button on the player, tv, and the receiver. When it comes time to do specific functions inherent to one piece of equipment, that piece of equipments remote is always the best choice for that function. So you got 3 remotes sitting on your coffee table and quite a few extra BD's sitting on your shelf since you didn't blow $200 on a remote. Hey, now you can afford that $500 surge protector from Best Buy.

I've been wanting an IR adapter for my PS3 so it'll work with my Harmony but want something sleeker looking than a regular USB dongle that sticks out the front and ruins the clean look of the unit. This thing says it conforms to the shape of the PS3 but has no pics to demonstrate. |

The other reason I can't go back to not using a Harmony now is that it's great to hit two buttons and have my remote automatically configure my TV to display any one of my five video sources (PS3, PC, DVR, DVD, and Xbox 360). Sorry, it's OT but for a lot of guys like me the extra convenience more than outweighs the 100-200 dollar savings. Believe me, I didn't care for universals myself until I got a Harmony - now I can't imagine not having mine. |

But i have to say i hate the PS3's. It eats batteries, doesn't have a backlight, and turns my PS3 on every time the wind blows (which is ironic because of how often it goes into sleep mode). |

I don't understand why the Bluetooth SIG allows Sony to use the word "Bluetooth" to describe their Plaaystation 3 Blu-Ray Bluetooth Remote. The logo is designed to guarantee standard interoperability and yet Sony clearly does not support AVRCP, a previously existing standard for doing the same thing and even supports proprietary extensions for manufacturer-specific functions (like the "PS button"). If they used AVRCP, we would have cheap IR transceivers and universal remotes with built-in Bluetooth. I've paired A2DP headsets with AVRCP and found that they did not work for controlling playback and, conversely, the remote does not work for controling Windows Media Center and such when paired with a PC (A2DP/AVRCP headsets can). Sony is doing a disservice to the Bluetooth initiative as this defeats the whole purpose. FWIW, there are many "Bluetooth" devices that aren't authorized to use the BT logo and name... like the Logitech FreePULSE headphones. Someone should put the pressure on Sony and that someone should be the Bluetooth SIG. They should implement strict new rules (if they don't already say it) saying that any device must use a previously existing standard if it is to carry the logo and must submit a new, open one if one does not exist.

Any update on this subject?
Do any of the Universal remote manufacturers (Logitech, Philips, etc..) have a ps3 / bluetooth capable universal remote on the horizon / roadmap? |

Logitech now sells an expensive receiver/transmitter device to interface all Harmony remotes with it.

I just use the DS3. Bluetooth, recharges, and from years of Playstation gaming I can operate in confidence even in darkness. Also, the interface is very similar to the PS2's dvd player, so again, very familiar.
I received the official bluetooth remote as a gift bundled with Hancock during that Wal-Mart deal. Its a very nicely designed controller, but I always have to look at where buttons are at so I just end up wasting time. I'm much happier using two hands with a remote I'm infinitely familiar with, than having 1 hand free but fumbling with the layout. and yeah, the damn thing turns my PS3 on all the time. It took me a solid month to figure out what the hell. Took the batteries out of the remote and haven't used it since. |
