![]() La vie rźvée des anges [The Dreamlife of Angels] (1998: Erick Zonca)
![]() ![]() First viewing. Wow, what performances by Élodie Bouchez and Natacha Régnier, they definitely deserved every award they received for their roles as Isabelle and Marie. Just a pity Marie didn't have wings like the titular angels. 8/10 |

![]() ![]() I don't know if I can pick my favorite sitcom from growing up. We had a lot of great ones in that era. But I can say for certain that there was a time, while it was airing, that Growing Pains was my favorite. And despite that, I'd never seen this reunion film. It was so good to revisit the Seavers today, after, for me, has been over 30 years! The movie was funny, cute, and just feel-good all around. Growing Pains: The Movie: ⭐⭐⭐½ ![]() And 4 years after the first movie aired, another, and final, one was released. The continuity in this one is messed up. Mike has different kids, and I don't just mean the actors, I mean the kids have different names, races (they're adopted, that part is the same in both films), ages, the works. And there are other flaws. The humor is hit and miss, and the score is terrible. But, it has its charms, and it breaks the 4th wall a good amount, which is fun, because it always refers to the TV show. In the end, I didn't like it as much as the first film, but it was still enjoyable for a fan of the series. Growing Pains: Return of the Seavers: ⭐⭐⭐ |

![]() ![]() But I'm a Cheerleader (1999) 7/10 Was hoping someone would recommended this for the School theme, but it was worth rewatching anyway. I wouldn't call this exactly campy, but rather reveling in camp. It's emblematic of a different era (the 20th Century) when LGBT was just being introduced to mainstream moviegoers - well, mainstream in as far as it was an early Lions Gate production back when they were an upstart wannabe Miramax. Back then, it seemed filmmakers had to flame it up, as here, or else - like the movie that made Melanie Lynskey famous, Heavenly Creatures - lesbians were still relegated to the Hays Code ranks of perverted criminals. Speaking of Lynskey, I find the casting of Cheerleader excellent, from the obvious (RuPaul and Mink Stole) to the pitch perfect Cathy Moriarty and Michelle Williams to the grounded foil, Clea DuVall. |

![]() ![]() Dope (2015) 8/10 Thanks to jupiterhill for the recommendation! I didn't realize there's a tenuous connection between But I'm a Cheerleader and Dope - at the start of Dope, the narrator explains that the three friends are into 90s culture and that one of them is experiencing Christianity-driven homosexual reprogramming. Both films are also shot in Los Angeles, although two very different corners of it. Both films also have catchy soundtracks and infectious upbeat energy dealing with dark situations. I have a feeling this one's going to grow on me with subsequent viewings. I used to think 1939 and then 1999 were the greatest years in movie history, but I'm coming around to the idea that maybe it was 2015. |

![]() La mala ordina [The Italian Connection] (1972: Fernando Di Leo)
![]() ![]() ![]() First viewing. This film is from an era everything seemed to be more simple and we didn't need convoluted plots. Then I also always like to see Mario Adorf in action, doesn't matter if in Italian or German movies. 7/10 |
