Wow it doesn't even get the best sound editing or mixing, do they not like Michael Bay?

Some could guess that Transformers and Pirates split votes, so Golden Compass steps up.

If I remember correctly, the atheistic parts of the book were glossed over or pulled entirely out of the movie. If any statement was made here, it's either...

A) Pirates and robots don't appeal to a majority of the academy or
B) The fact that the movie was huge everywhere but in the USA and that is an embarrassment to the academy

I though that Transformers was a lock for the sound categories, but it got OWNED by Bourne.

Golden Compass was far more complex. All Bayformers had was a few overly complex models. Compass had breadth, variety, and superb execution, which is what the VFX people are looking for

No, it wasn't Transformers that was lost, it was ILM. Pirates also ILM

In the last ten years, ILM only won Pirates 3, even that's because it was too obvious, with Davy Jones character.

Default Cause / Effect

When Forrest Gump beat the Madness of King George - folks at the bar got so sick of my friend griping about it - they said "If you don't like it, why don't you make your OWN awards show!"

So he did... He started the Madisons (get it? Oscar Madison... Odd Couple... nevermind). Did it for 10 years. Pieced together clips from the worst movies he could find with great categories like "Most Annoying use of a Child Actor in a Motion Picture", "Token Black Award", "Most Porn-Like Title for a Non-Adult Film".

Good stuff... "Free Beer!" was the rallying cry, since when you paid for your ticket you got all the pizza and beer you could consume...

I miss the Madisons...

I seems like Bourne is cleaning up (3 trophies so far).

The 70's was a great decade for movies. Two God Fathers, etc.

How did Helen Page not win best actress.

oh well...

LOL @ this thread..... the one I wanted to win didn't win... the Oscars are crap!!! Give me a break...
I'll take charge considering it is MY thread.
I never said the AAs are crap. You can't possibly tell me that the Spcial Effects were a step above Transformers. Transformers sucked as a movie but the effects were presented superbly and it looked unbelievably real. I was pressuring myself to believe the effects in The Golden Compass. I was dissapointed, don't get me wrong, but go roll your eyes somewhere else...sir.

Yes it's true. But it's a made up story so I don't see why people are making such a big deal of the whole OH NO AN ATHIEST WANTS TO KilL A GOD! It's common sense he would use his own THOUGHTS to write a story.

I've love since stopped believing the AA were worth anything. I haven't watched it in about 3-4 years. They don't generally actually seem to pick awards based on who is the best choice. Many of their choices are politically biased and some just biased in general.

Its not the fact that an athiest wants to kill god thats a no brainer its just that hollywood tends to give oscars to movies that fit there agenda good or bad case in point I do not remember any oscars for passion of the christ
