Region locks. Why do we need to have them anyways? There is no sense. I use to special order movies from Japan that could play here in the US. I am sure others enjoy movies from other region codes also. Why can't there be a universal region code so all movies play anywhere in the world without a problem? I don't see a down side to this. Region locks? Don't like 'em.

For me, the only thing it's missing is decoding DTS-HD MA. It's pretty much perfect otherwise. I was pretty surprised by the PS3. After starting out with an X360, the PS3 was a godsend, if for nothing else, it's almost completely silent. While I originally bought it just for gaming, I quickly discovered it was probably the best blu-ray player on the market as well. Easily updated to profile 1.1, profile 2.0 coming soon, and probably the fastest. glitch-free player. I kind of lucked out on the whole thing though. If I hadn't been dissatisfied with the x360, I probably wouldn't have given the PS3 a 2nd thought (especially since I really liked the last-gen xbox and had never owned a playstation). As it turns out, the PS3 is probably the best piece of hardware I've owned.
I didn't vote on this but a friend of mine was disappointed to find he couldn't send the audio through HDMI and optical (I think it was) at the same time. He wants to use it with the TV at times and with the receiver at times (without having to change the option in the setup). So, I'd like that feature for others that want it even if I'm indifferent about it at the moment. |

I have had my 60GB Playstation 3 since its inception, and for the last 15 months all i have to say it, like someone else said, a godsend. The fan and heat isnt a really issue unless you leave it on for more than a day, which most users would abide by, the price is fair, yes it is still like 400$, but for that you get a blu-ray player and a Playstation, no other stand-alone can say it will play next gen games, yes for PS3 owner one of the biggest gripes is the lack of excellent titles, but for me, i use it 98% as a Blu-ray player and the other 2% i use to play Drake's, Resistance, but the PS3 has HDMI 1.3, x.v.color, DTruHD, can accept 1080/24p, 7.1 output, Profile 1.1, and from what im told, will soon update to be Profile 2.0, BD-Live and fully utilize wi-fi and the ethernet cable, the only problem is of course DTS-Master, but i also think that will be in a firmware update shortly, so once they do that it will be the must-have blu-ray player, IMO it already is

about 5% of homes can take advantage of dts-hd ma, if that. why did so many people choose that? if the ps3 was selling for $200 - $300, there would be more ps3s than wiis.

Like everyone else I still agree that DTS HD MA is definately an issue for me continuing with the ps3 as my main bluray player in future (at the moment it is not an issue as my amp cant do it anyway - or LPCM in more than 2 channel
![]() However the one I think you missed in your list, is the poor ability to stream audio / video to the player remotely via a pc. It still seems to have issues with a lot of types of video, you get the dlna 501 errors now with the new f/ware. And unfortunately compared to the XBox360 they are not even close.... Panic |

In total agreement. Once I experienced a proper surround sound system it became 60% of my movie viewing experience. It's one thing to be able to see things as clearly as possible... it's a whole new ball game when your entire living room comes to life and LITERALLY puts you in the middle of the scene!!!

If a movie can take you to a place where you are not just "watching" the movie but your mind almost feels a part of it then thats a truly great movie. Lossless audio helps take you to that place. Its so pure and clean, much more natural sounding. I LOVE IT!!! Last edited by Glow007; 02-26-2008 at 09:54 PM. |

I don't think that it's fair to hold 'Region Locking' as a challenge for the PS3. Every DVD and BluRay disc are region locked, and always have been. This was like..the one actual benefit to HDDVD. Of course, it's also why Fox and Disney wouldn't produce HDDVDs.
