9 y/o kid tears it up on Guitar Hero

Actually, that kid's name is Ben Eberle. If you spend any time at all playing Guitar Hero, as I have, you'll see his name pop up for sure. He's one of the best players in the world.

Two things:
He's said that he can play a bit of guitar, not much, but he does play. Also, claims to have the normal amount of friends, so he's not sitting in a cave playing all the time. He's just gifted. Some are.

As for the not strumming, above poster had it right. Especially, in that game, you don't have to strum ALL the notes. There are plenty of hammer ons and pull-offs, especially on THAT song, that a lot of it is tapped.

He's an amazing kid.

Look closely at the note when you play. There is a white cap on top, right? If there is a black ring around the white cap, you have to strum it. If there is no black line around the cap, you don't have to strum. You just have to tap the appropriate color button.

You won't see buttons like this until, I think, you hit hard. Maybe on the tougher songs on medium. I haven't played GH3 in a while.

In Rock Band also, there are bars that are smaller, they are bars that you just tap, and don't have to strum.

Actually, Medium has it some too, and I think even Easy has some HO/PO action, even though it's a rarity.

My nephew came round my place the other week & he was shredding licks, he put me to shame i was like a 3 fingered baboon with Arithritis. As someones already mentioned i found it a bit sad he'd put so much time & effort into it - i'm not being cruel but he's 18 & he needs to get out more. He would have been better off spending the time actually trying to play a real guitar.

As someone who plays actual real musical instruments (although not Guitar, Piano and Saxophone), screw you.

There is nothing fun whatsoever about picking up a musical instrument to practice an unknown song for 20 minutes.

There's a ton of fun to be had picking up Guitar Hero or Rock Band for 20 minutes.

Furthermore, there is no fun to be had whatsoever playing a real instrument with a group of friends.

FPSs are so lame, get a real gun.
Sports games are so lame, join a real team.
Driving games are so lame, get in a real car.
RPGs are so lame, go outside and kill bunnies.

The entire concept of "Get a real guitar" is so stupid, yet people just continue to trumpet it over, and over, and over...and some of them are stupid enough to believe it actually means something.
