I do not know about other PS3 owners, but I personally do enjoy the gaming side of my PS3 also and do not want to see it lose even more ground in the gaming side.

Well, the BDA/Sony would probably ask MS to pay an acceptable amount in order to include this technology. So the question is...how much is this worth to Microsoft and Sony??

but thers talk of microsoft ready to drop the price of the 360. why would they add a BD drive, and raise the price back up?. and another thing, in the artical the guy from sony says bd players wont drop to $200 till at least late 2009. if the devil make's a bd add on, what the hell is the price gonna be? $300. i dont see that happening.

This is a tricky situation for both companies. This could be the downfall of the 360. Microsoft should really develop it's PC games and pull out of consoles. Is it really worth it to pay $50 a year for Live?

Like I said, the BD can be put in, but Sony is gonna make em pay for it. And on top of that, they will have higher manufacturing costs which will bring the price up for the "Elite" version or whatever that the 360 might put it on. In the end, Sony will get some money from MS now, and this will expand the BD brand. It's gonna be a win-win for both but probably a bit more for Sony b/c Sony has moer bargaining power as far as the price that MS would have to pay than MS itself

I don't see why Sony wouldn't want this to happen. Sony will inevitably get better prices on BD drives than MS will have access to for a while to come and it'll only legitimize the decision Sony made to include BD in the PS3 to begin with. It'll also help BD adoption and that's a good thing for everyone (especially the BDA companies).

but but but...it'll mean less ps3 sales and as a ps3 fanboy that will tear my precious world apart. never mind the fact the ps3 isn't the only money maker for the almighty sony, but it'll automatically mean more 360 sales and less ps3 sales. or in other words..the end of the world!

update from game spot
Quote:
For its part, Microsoft quickly denied any move toward Blu-ray had been officially made. "We have made no such announcement," a rep told GameSpot. "Games are what are driving consumers to purchase game consoles, and we remain focused on providing the largest library of blockbuster games available."
Quote:
For its part, Sony welcomes the possibility of a Blu-ray-equipped Xbox 360. "If Microsoft wants to release Gears of War 3 on a Blu-ray Disc, I think we can make that happen," Sony Computer Entertainment America's vice president of product marketing Scott A. Steinberg told GameSpot prior to today's report.
Quote:
While Steinberg's comments were merely hypothetical, they were echoed by another SCEA rep today--who declined to confirm nor deny the Times report. "While of course we are excited that the Blu-ray won the format war and knew that our decision to include Blu-ray in PS3 would pay off, the Blu-ray format is an initiative developed by the Blu-ray Disc Association," said the rep, referring to the body governing the BD format. While led by Sony, the BDA is made up of nine companies: Sony, Pioneer, Philips, Thomson, LG, Hitachi, Sharp, Samsung, and Panasonic parent company Matsushita.

I laughed my ass of at that gears of war part LOL, you can read the whole thing here http://www.gamespot.com/news/6187311...stnews;title;0 and what does the sony rep mean when he says the BD format is an initiative of the BDA? what is he trying to say.

I agree with you 100%, I said the same thing what you said on Engadget and I got the lowest ranked. I rather have the Xbox die out, I have both systems and I prefer the PS3 over the Xbox 360. Screw Microsoft!

I don't think there is any problem with this, it will strengthen adoption of Blu across the board, which will sell more movies, lower prices, and hopefully spur better releases. Microsoft wins by getting more sales as people are looking for an integrated system. The BDA will win by sales from the drive and the disks. I honestly think the BDA would jump on board with the idea because as somebody said, 1.7 million extra players means a lot more disks sold.

I don't think there's a problem with the PS3, as when games people are waiting on start coming out later this year, sales of it will go up being driven by the games aspect of the system, and not as just a BD player. If it can't compete with the Xbox because it's not the only BD player console, then there's a major issue with Sony's marketing plan.
